Advocating for the South-South Migration Agenda The ACP Observatory on Migration works for the  inclusion of South‐South migration  in the  international migration and development debates providing reliable data and evidence on the potential of South‐South migration for develop‐ment. The ACP Observatory is involved and provides input to several processes which take increasingly into account the importance of migration between developing countries. 

During the latest meeting of the Africa‐EU Process (Rabat Process)  on Migration and Development in Dakar (November 2011), representatives of EU and African countries have agreed to “intensify South‐South cooperation via the exchange of experiences and best practices between Rabat Process and other regions”. 

The 2012 Mauritius Chair of the Global Forum on Migration and Development focuses much attention on the realities of South‐South migration and its impact on development. 

The European Council High Level Working Group on Asylum and Migra‐tion has pushed towards recognizing the importance of South‐South migration in mobility patterns. The latest Communication of the Euro‐

pean Commission on the Global Approach on Migration and Mobi‐lity also highlights the importance of South‐South migration and em‐phasizes the potential for development and the challenges linked to this type of mobility.  

The United Nations High Level Dialogue on Interna‐tional Migration and Development will review in 2013 the progress made since the last meeting, which took place in 2006. The meeting will provide an oppor‐tunity to highlight the importance of South‐South mi‐gration.  The European Union‐African Union Migration, Mobility and Em‐

ployment Partnership also recognizes the importance of acknowled‐ging the patterns of South‐South migration. The ACP Observatory participates in the meetings of 

the Global Migration Group and the International Coordination Meetings organized by UN DESA to establish synergies and exchange information with in‐ternational organizations working on migration issues. 

The ACP Observatory and its Board partners prepare a research publi‐cation on South‐South migration to identify concrete evidence to support the inclusion of South‐South migration in international debate.
