Speaker boxes Small back volume, Rub & Buzz, and Distortion are the challenges often encountered during speaker integrations. To help customers overcome these acoustic issues, Seltech has strengthened its capabilities and its dedicated engineering team in order to support the integration of standard and customized speaker boxes. Why use a speaker box?

Fixed closed back volume: Because a speaker is very sensitive to its environment, the fixed back volume of the box will ensure the consistency of the speaker performance and will avoid Larsen effect on microphone.

Optimized acoustic design: Via simulation and prototyping, Seltech can propose the best design of the acoustic solution taking performance and space limitations into account.

Reliable quality control: Precise equipment and trained personnel will measure and control each speaker box to ensure its performance and quality.

Easier integration: A speaker box is always easier to integrate than a core speaker due to its robustness and its adapted connectivity.

The level of customization of Seltech’s speaker boxes is high and adapted to each customer’s requirements:

Most of the Audio applications using loudspeakers uses also Microphones

A good seal between the product case and the gasket and between the PCB and the gasket is important. A leak between the microphone and the case, resulting through a leaky gasket design can cause echo or noise problems in the acoustic signal which leads to a lower SNR. Knowles’ Piezo Ceramic Microphones (BL Series) are rugged, stable and versatile. BL microphones are available in three different package sizes: standard, thin or 0.5" cylindrical shell and cable assembly. Both communication and broadband frequency response versions are offered. In addition, BL microphones have high vibration sensitivity and may be used as accelerometers.

The MR Series Assemblies consist of a microphone element attached to a bellows assembly. They may be panel mounted, attached for boom applications, and are suitable for outdoor use or repeated submersion.

Boom microphones & sensors

Knowles boom microphones are designed for either flexible or rigid

configurations and offer such performance options as noise rejection and high-frequency crossover of near and far field responses. Collaboration with commercial, governmental and industrial designers is producing new helmet applications for aircraft, military, first responder and high-noise manufacturing environments.

Headset booms allow the microphone to be placed in the near field, where a noise canceling microphone responds the difference in acoustic pressure. The combination of a good close-talking microphone element and close proximity to the mouth provides excellent signal to noise even in extremely noisy conditions. Those boom microphone assemblies are mainly used in :

Lightweight noise-canceling headset for telephony, computer speech recognition, or other indoor use (Security, Police, Fire, Dispatcher etc.)

Helmet or face mask integration

Radio communication (Aviation, Industrial, In-ear, Professional, Military)

And Sensor (Shot detection, Unattended Ground Sensors)

Several series of boom & sensor microphones are available: W, U, I, O, M, R, F and H W, U, I, O, M and R series are boom microphone assembly: W series – smaller footprint, lighter weight offering noise cancellation and IP67 rating I series – noise cancelling with self-powered microphone element M series – noise cancelling, waterproofing to IP68 rating R series – designed for aviation customers looking for TSO/RTCA compatible noise cancelling electret microphone W, O, M and R series are mainly built-in with EK, NR and WP specialty transducer microphones. U series are built-in with FG and DFG specialty transducer microphones. I series are built-in with BJ specialty transducer microphones. F and H series are sensor microphone assembly: F series – Panel mount design for outdoor applications H series – Designed for use in outdoor sensor arrays for fixed or mobile installations. Detects time of arrival and acoustic signature for source triangulation and identification Both F and H series are built-in with highly sensitive EK or WP specialty transducer microphones. Accelerometers, Ultrasonic, Dampers and Wax protection

Knowles’ sensors include accelerometers and ultrasonic sensors. Knowles’

accessories are acoustic dampers and wax protection.

Accelerometers are frequently used as contact microphones for radio communications in high noise environments such as firefighting or combat. The accelerometers reproduce voice signals from vibrations at the throat or from bony parts of the head, and are compatible with helmet or headset applications. Ultrasonic sensors are based on Knowles’ MEMS silicon surface mount microphone technology. While Knowles’ industry-leading MEMS silicon surface mount microphone technology, in bottom port configuration offer flat frequency response in the standard audio bandwidth, they are also capable to support even higher frequency bands. Sensor designs are possible across a wide spectrum of applications requiring highly miniaturized solutions for sensing and actuation/signaling. Acoustic dampers are acoustic cloth screens for insertion inside acoustic tubing. These damping elements are used between the receiver outlet and the ear canal to smoothen the frequency response. Wax protection prolongs hearing instrument performance. As the leading designer of hearing aid components, Knowles offers several ways for device manufacturers and end users to effectively address wax buildup. Solutions include WaxBuster and MicroWaxBuster push-piston wax removal systems, and NoWax disposable filter-replacement system.
