Hello All National Student Chapter Members,
We would like to personally welcome you to the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians Student Chapter
(ACOEP-SC)! Being one of the more recently developed specialties, it is an exciting time to be interested in the expanding
field of Emergency Medicine.
The ACOEP-SC offers a unique experience in that we work very closely with and are completely supported by our parent
organization, ACOEP. Unlike many other colleges, the ACOEP realizes that their continued success and future membership
starts with each of you, our student members. Our National Student Chapter President has a voting seat on the ACOEP
Board of Directors to ensure the physicians hear the student voices. We also have a Board Liaison and Physician Advisor to
assist in our development as a student chapter. Now that you are an official part of the family, here is what the ACOEP has
to offer you:
Two Annual Conferences
The Fall ACOEP Scientific Assembly and Spring Seminar both offer student events including workshops, lectures, residency
director panels, Student Resident Expo and social events. A $600 stipend is provided for each school to the Fall conference
to assist in lodging (room) expenses. A member of your school must attend the Student General Membership Meeting in
order to receive the stipend. Requests for the $600 reimbursement must be made prior to attending the conference; the
students will need to be in attendance at the student general membership meeting where they will fill out a
reimbursement form and submit it via email.
Mentorship Program
The ACOEP Mentorship Programs enables you to connect with mentors who have volunteered their time and expertise to
be an added resource to your local chapter. This valuable resource helps to build honest relationships where students can
reap the benefit of their mentor's knowledge, insight and aid in keeping a quality student chapter program at each school
from year to year. You will be able to ask direct questions and get intelligent advice on clearing the hurdles of medical
school, preparing for residency and becoming a successful physician.
The Student Resident Expo
The ACOEP Student Resident Expo is held at the annual Fall Scientific Assembly. EM Residency Programs from across the
country are invited to this event where you will be able to interact with Program Directors, Coordinators, and current
residents. This gives you the opportunity to gain information about different programs and will help guide you in selecting
which program you wish to pursue.
Leadership Academy
The ACOEP annual leadership academy is held in conjunction with our Fall Conference. The Academy focuses on how
students can work to become future leaders not only in Emergency Medicine, but in all facets of their lives. For
participation a letter is sent to your school for them to incorporate into your Dean’s Letter or Medical Student
Performance Evaluation (MSPE).
Case Poster Competition
We also have an annual Case Poster Competition open to all medical student members, which is sponsored by the
Foundation of Osteopathic Emergency Medicine (FOEM) and is held annually at our Spring Conference.

Networking
With over 2,000 Osteopathic EM physicians nationwide, 51 residency programs and 29 medical schools with numbers
growing everyday, the connections you will make will amaze you! http://www.acoep.org/pages/gme-res-prog
Online Podcast Series
For students who cannot attend the conference, we have created the online podcast series. Lectures from past
conferences are posted regularly, as are new lectures. Podcasts will be uploaded to the student page at:
https://www.acoep.org/stu-mem.htm Podcasts will be available for download throughout the year. Additionally they can
be found on our Facebook page.
Publications
With several student- and attending-generated publications to read, we try hard to keep members up to date on
education and current events in the Emergency Medicine community. The Pulse is the Osteopathic Emergency Medicine
quarterly publication produced by the college. The Fast Track is the student- and resident-run publication, which contains
updates on the activities of Emergency Medicine clubs across the country, tips for students who are conducting rotations
and news about the national student chapter of the ACOEP.
Social Media
The ACOEP-SC Facebook page (www.facebook.com/acoepsc) is student run and will keep you and your local chapter linked
in to what is going on at the national level. We regularly post resident tips, residency chapter highlights, interesting
articles, as well as opportunities to get involved.
Committees
The purpose of the Undergraduate Medical Education Committee is to develop academic information on emergency
medicine on the pre-doctoral level. Members produce student-level lectures for distribution to Colleges of Osteopathic
Medicine and physicians on pertinent topics in emergency medicine. Committee members have a sincere interest in
mentoring students. This committee meets twice yearly and its members are required to create lectures for the semi-
annual publications and podcasts of Student Lectures.
Discount Opportunities
The ACOEP and ACOEP-SC provide great connections across the country with air travel, car rental, question banks and
many other appealing discounts that save you money by just being a member!
This is your opportunity to get involved! Please use the website, www.acoep.org, and our Facebook Page to stay in touch.
As always, feel free to contact any of our officers with any questions, comments or concerns. We look forward to meeting
you at a future conference!
Best Regards,
ACOEP Student Chapter Officers
