Former Indian President of India Pratibha Patil has been conferred the ―Orden Mexicana del Aguila

Azteca‖ (Order of the Aztec Eagle) the highest civilian award of Mexico given to foreigners.

The Ambassador of Mexico to India, Melba Pria, conferred the award on Patil who created history as this

country‘s first woman President (2007-2012), at a special ceremony held in the MCCIA Bhavan, Pune.

WHO award for Rajasthan Health Department

The World Health Organization has selected the Rajasthan government‘s Medical & Health

Department for its award this year in recognition of its achievements in the field of tobacco control.

The department‘s Additional Chief Secretary, Rohit Kumar Singh has received the award at a function to

mark World No Tobacco Day in New Delhi.

Kerala honours veteran film star Sheela with award

Veteran actress Sheela, 76, has been honoured with the prestigious J.C. Daniel Award in recognition of

her contribution to the Malayalam film industry.This award is the Kerala government‘s top film award for a

film veteran. The award includes a cash prize of Rs 500,000 and a citation.

Sunder Pichai, Nasdaq's Friedman To Receive 2019 Global Leadership Award

In the United States, Google's India-born CEO Sundar Pichai and Nasdaq president Adena

Friedman have been chosen for the prestigious Global Leadership Awards 2019 by business advocacy

group USIBC in recognition of the two companies' contribution as the leading technology-driven platforms.

Kasturirangan committee submits new draft education policy to HRD Ministry

Former ISRO chief Dr. Kasturirangan led Committee submitted the draft National Educational Policy

(NEP) to HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank in New Delhi. The policy draft recommends

incorporation of Indian knowledge systems in the curriculum, constituting a National Education Commission

and curbing arbitrary fees hikes by private schools.

The existing NEP was framed in 1986 and revised in 1992.

PM Modi hikes National Defence Fund scholarship assistance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved changes to the Prime Minister‘s Scholarship Scheme for

wards of deceased defense personnel under the National Defence Fund.

The quota of new scholarships for children of state police officials will be 500 in a year. The rates of

scholarship have also been increased from Rs. 2000 per month to Rs. 2500 per month for boys and from

Rs. 2250 per month to Rs. 3000 per month for girls.

ONGC topples IOC to regain most profitable public sector company

ONGC, India‘s top oil and gas producer, has toppled Indian Oil Corp (IOC) to regain the crown of

being the country‘s most profitable public sector company. According to earnings statements of the listed

companies, Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) reported a 34 percent jump it‘s in 2018-19 fiscal net profit to

Rs 26,716 crore.

The headquarters of ONGC is in New Delhi.

Rajnath Singh visits Siachen Glacier to review security situation

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Siachen Glacier and reviewed the security situation along the

borders with Pakistan. The Defence Minister was accompanied by Army Chief General Bipin Rawat.

The Siachen Glacier in the Karakorum range is known as the highest militarised zone in the world where

the soldiers have to battle frostbite and high winds.

Govt responds to U.S. decision to withdraw India‘s GSP benefits

Government has responded to the decision by the United States of America to withdraw India‘s GSP

benefits with effect from 5th June 2019. In a press statement, Commerce Ministry said that these are

unilateral, non-reciprocal and non-discriminatory benefits extended by some developed countries to

developing countries.

Chandrani Murmu became the youngest MP in India‘s history

In a first, a 25-year-old engineering graduate from Odisha has

become the youngest Member of Parliament to the 17th Lok Sabha.

Odisha has a total of seven women MPs, making it the first state ever to

have 33 percent or the largest share of women MPs of its total of 21 seats.

Chandrani Murmu, who has replaced Dushyant Chautala, was

elected as Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate from the Keonjhar

seat, as the youngest parliamentarian in the country.

Tripura to host 10th National Science Film Festival of India in 2020

In an effort to raise awareness about science and environment through films, the 10th National Science

Film Festival of India (NSFFI) will be organised in Tripura in January and February 2020.

The NSFFI debuted in Chennai eight years ago in 2011.

MP Cabinet passes resolution to increase reservation for OBCs to 27%

Madhya Pradesh Cabinet has passed a resolution to increase reservation quota for Other Backward

Classes (OBC) from existing 14% to 27%.

The move will lead to the reservation in the state breaching the Supreme Court-mandated 50 percent cap to

reach 63 percent.

Punjab and Haryana High Court declares Animals as Legal Persons

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has ruled that all animals are legal persons entitled to legal rights

like human beings.The order was passed in a case where the Court was informed that 29 cows were packed

in a cruel manner while being transported from Uttar Pradesh to Haryana.

Health Minister Chairs Meeting To Review Status Of RNTCP In New Delhi

The Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan, chaired a high-level meeting to review the status of the Revised

National Tuberculosis Control Program (RNTCP) in New Delhi.

During the meeting, Dr Vardhan directed the officials for taking up the elimination of TB on a Mission

Mode, which would include all stakeholders to come together for an aggressive strategy for TB free India

by 2025.

Nirmala Sitharaman To Attend G20 Finance Ministers‘ Meeting In Japan

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will attend the two-day meeting of G-20 Finance Ministers and

central bank governors in Japan. This will be the first overseas visit of Sitharaman as the Finance

Minister. Saudi Arabia will host the G20 summit in November 2020.

Delhi Metro becomes India‘s first project to receive power from waste-to-energy plant

Continuing its efforts to establish an environment-friendly network, the Delhi Metro has become the first

ever project in the country to receive power generated from a waste-to-energy plant.The Delhi Metro

Rail Corporation (DMRC) said it has started receiving 2 MW power from a 12 MW capacity waste-to-

energy plant set up in Ghazipur.

Mumbai traffic worst among world‘s 403 cities, Delhi ranks 4th: Study

Mumbai had the worst traffic congestion in 2018, an analysis of 403 cities across 56 countries on six

continents in ‗Traffic Index-2018‘, compiled by location technology specialist TomTom, has found. Mumbai

was followed by Colombia‘s Bogota, Peru‘s Lima and Delhi in traffic congestion. It added that the best time

to drive in Mumbai was between 2 AM to 5 AM.

Unemployment rate at 6.1% in 2017-18, highest in 45 years: Govt data

Confirming unemployment rate projected in a pre-election leaked report, the government said joblessness

in the country was 6.1 per cent of total labour force during 2017-18, the highest in 45 years.

The data released by the government on a day when Modi 2.0 Cabinet took charge showed 7.8 per cent of all

employable urban youth being jobless, while the percentage for the rural was 5.3 per cent.

Bancha, the first solar kitchen only village in India

Bancha in Betul district, Madhya Pradesh is the first village in India to have zero wooden stoves and

almost no use for LPG cylinders with all its 75 houses relying on solar-powered stoves to meet their cooking

needs.

Campaign ‗SelfiewithSapling‘ launched on the eve of Environment day

Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar launched a people‘s campaign #SelfiewithSapling urging all to

join and plant a sapling and post the selfie with the sapling on social media.

Talking to media in New Delhi on the eve of World Environment Day, Mr. Javadekar stressed that people‘s

participation is integral towards tackling the environmental issues and environment protection has to be a

people‘s movement.

Free travel for Women in Delhi Buses, Metro for ―Safety‖: Arvind Kejriwal

Woman in Delhi can soon travel free on public transport, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal

announced.

The move, which is yet to be cleared by the centre, will be launched in three months, said Mr Kejriwal,

adding that it would cost the Delhi government Rs. 700 crore this year.

Gujarat first to launch emissions trading

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on the World Environment Day launched the country‘s first emissions

trading scheme (ETS) to encourage and incentivize the industrial units to cut air pollution.

Under the scheme, the government will fix a cap on emissions as advised by the Gujarat Pollution Control

Board and then allow industries to buy and sell permits to maintain their emissions below the cap.

CII Launches New Index To Measure Fiscal Performance

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has launched a Fiscal Performance Index (FPI) to assess state

and central budgets.

The Index incorporates qualitative assessments of revenue expenditure, capital expenditure, revenues, fiscal

prudence and the level of public debt arrive at a more holistic picture of fiscal performance than the fiscal

deficit to GDP ratio according to the CII.

Piyush Goyal leads Indian delegation to G20 Ministerial meeting in Japan

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is leading the Indian delegation for the two-day G20

Ministerial meeting on Trade and Digital Economy beginning at Tsukuba city in Japan. Mr. Goyal will

discuss developments in the global trade situation, WTO matters, and digital trade.

India gets its first Dinosaur Museum

India‘s first Dinosaur Museum cum Park was inaugurated in Gujarat‘s Mahisagar district and is set to

give visitors the true Jurassic Park feel.

The museum, which was inaugurated by Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani at Raiyoli near Balasinor,

will exhibit remains of various dinosaurs and fossil records.

All States Can Now Constitute Foreigners Tribunals

The Ministry Of Home Affairs (MHA) has amended the Foreigners (Tribunals) Order, 1964, and has

empowered district magistrates in all States and Union Territories to set up tribunals to decide whether a

person staying illegally in India is a foreigner or not.

Earlier, the powers to constitute tribunals were vested only with the Centre.

ICAT Releases India‘s 1st BS – VI Certificate in Two Wheeler Segment

International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) released India‘s first Type Approval Certificate

(TAC) for Bharat Stage – VI (BS – VI) norms that are the latest emission norms as notified by the

Government of India for the two-wheeler segment.

NDMA conducts training programme for CBRN emergencies

NDMA is conducting a basic training programme at the Deendayal Port Trust in Kandla, Gujarat,

aimed at increasing the awareness and enhancing the preparedness of Seaport Emergency Handlers

(SEHs) to respond to CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear) threats which emanate at

seaports due to arrival, storage and transportation of a large amount of chemical, petrochemical and other

CBRN agents.

France to provide up to 7 lakh euros for railway station development in India

Indian Railway Station Development Corporation (IRSDC) entered into a tripartite agreement with French

National Railways (SNCF) and French Development Agency (AFD), under which a grant of up to 7 lakh

euros will be provided to boost capacity building for railway station development program in India.

Very Severe Cyclonic Storm ‗VAYU‘ Over East-Central Arabian

The Very Severe Cyclonic Storm ‗VAYU‘ over East-central Arabian Sea moved nearly northwards with a

speed of about 13 kmph in last six hours and lay centred over East-central Arabian Sea, about 470 km west-

northwest of Goa, 280 km south-southwest of Mumbai (Maharashtra) and 340 km nearly south of Veraval

(Gujarat).

India partners with Portugal to set up a national maritime heritage museum

India has partnered with Portugal to set up a national maritime heritage museum at Lothal in Gujarat.

The Indian Navy will be the stakeholder in the project and the Portuguese Navy will assist as they have

experience in it by administering the maritime museum in Lisbon, Portugal. India is to follow a similar

model of the maritime museum.

ASI declares Chaukhandi Stupa as of national important monument

Chaukhandi Stupa, an ancient Buddhist site located in Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh, has been declared as

a Monument and protected area of national importance by Archaeological Survey of India

(ASI).Chaukhandi Stupa is a lofty mound of brick whose square edifice is surrounded by an octagonal tower.

Mela Kheer Bhawani celebrated with religious fervor in J&K

The annual ‗Mela Kheer Bhawani‘, the most important festival of Kashmiri pandits, associated with Hindu

Goddess Ragnya Devi was Monday celebrated with religious fervor and gaiety at Tulmulla area of central

Kashmir‘s Ganderbal district and Kupwara with thousands of Pandith devotees participated in the function.

India accounts for 12% of the world‘s internet users

According to the annual report on internet trends by venture capitalist Mary Meeker, India accounts for

12% world‘s internet users.

China has the largest base, accounting for 21% of all internet users globally, and the US comes third at 8%.

HCL to roll out ―Tech Bee‖ programme

HCL Technologies is all set to roll out ―Tech Bee‖ programme, a company initiative under which it trains

DU scientists discover frog in Assam and name it after Northeast

A team of scientists from Delhi University and the Wildlife Institute of India, in collaboration with

Government Reduces the Rate of ESI Contribution from 6.5% to 4%

The government has reduced the total rate of the contribution made by workers and employers towards

the Employees‘ State Insurance (ESI) scheme from 6.5% to 4% for the first time in over two decades.

At present, nearly 4.75% of a worker‘s monthly salary goes towards ESI as the employer‘s contribution

and 1.75% of the income is the employee‘s share at present. Now, 3.25% will be the employer‘s share

and 0.75% the employee‘s.

31.4% of Indian children will be stunted by 2022: Food and Nutrition Security Report

Recently released Food and Nutrition Security Report stated that 31.4% of Indian children will be

stunted by 2022. Which means one in every three Indian children under five years will be stunted by 2022.

India lost its spot as the fastest growing major economy to China in the January-March quarter for the first

FICCI survey forecasts India‘s GDP growth at 7.1% for FY20

The country‘s median GDP is forecast at 7.1 per cent for FY20 and 7.2 per cent for FY 21. The industry

body FICCI‘seconomic outlook survey said that the minimum and maximum growth estimate stood at 6.8

per cent and 7.3 per cent, for 2019-20.

2nd Bi-Monthly Monetary Policy Statement Released: Repo Rate Reduced to 5.75%

The 2nd Bi-Monthly monetary policy statement has been released. On the basis of an assessment of the

current and evolving macroeconomic situation, the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) at its meeting

decided to:

1. Reduce the policy repo rate under the liquidity adjustment facility (LAF) by 25 basis points to 5.75% from

6.00% with immediate effect. 2. Consequently, the reverse repo rate under the LAF stands adjusted to 5.50%, and the marginal standing

facility (MSF) rate and the Bank Rate to 6.0%. 3.

RBI sets up committee to review ATM fee structure

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has indicated that it will constitute a committee to review the ATM

interchange fee structure. This is the fees paid for using your debit card at the ATMs of other banks.

RBI said that a Committee involving all stakeholders, under the chairmanship of the V. G. Kannan,

Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Indian Banks‘ Association (IBA), will examine the entire gamut of ATM

charges and fees.

Paytm Payments Bank ahead of major banks in digital transaction target

Paytm Payments Bank has received a target of 501.16 crore digital transactions for the financial year

2019-20 from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), higher than the targets set

for major banks including HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Punjab National Bank.

In a statement, Paytm Payments Bank said it is only behind the State Bank of India, which has the

highest target for digital transactions.

e-Money share in India‘s payment systems reaches 21.5%: RBI

Getting a leg-up from from the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes in November 2016, the share

of e-Money in India‘s payment systems grew to 21.5 per cent in 2017 from 0.8 per cent in 2012, according to

a new report from the Reserve Bank of India.

RBI cuts growth forecast to 7 per cent

The Reserve Bank of India lowered the economic growth forecast for the current fiscal to 7 per cent due

AFD a French development agency to finance upto 7,00,000 EURO to IRSDC

Indian Railway Station Development Corporation (IRSDC) entered a Tripartite Agreement with French

Railways (SNCF) & AFD, a French Agency which will finance up to 7,00,000 EURO, through French

National Railways (SNCF)-Hubs and Connexions as a Technical Partner to IRSDC to support the Railway

Station Development Program in India, so there will be no financial liability on IRSDC or Indian Railways.

No charges for RTGS, NEFT transactions from July 1

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) directed banks to withdraw the charges levied on the National

Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) and Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) transactions with effect

from July 1.

The directive has been issued under Section 10 (2) read with Section 18 of the Payment and Settlement

Systems Act 2007 (Act 51 of 2007).

IDBI Bank Ltd. enters into standalone health insurance tie-up with Max Bupa

IDBI Bank Ltd. and Max Bupa, a standalone health insurer (SAHI), signed a Bancassurance corporate

agency agreement on June 1, 2019. It is the first time that IDBI Bank has been on-boarded as a corporate

HDFC sells further 4.22% stake in Gruh Finance for ₹899 crore

Mortgage lender HDFC has sold over 4.22% stake in subsidiary Gruh Finance Ltd (Gruh), which is

proposed to be amalgamated with Bandhan Bank for ₹899.43 crore. Post the completion of the aforesaid

sale of shares, Gruh would cease to be a subsidiary of the Corporation.

Exim Bank inks $245 mn loan agreement with Ghana, Mozambique to support agri, rail projs

Export Import Bank of India (Exim Bank) will provide line of credit worth USD 245 million to Ghana and

Mozambique for agricultural and railway projects.

Exim Bank supported line of credit of USD 150 million to Ghana and USD 95 million to Mazambique, the

Bank fraud touches unprecedented Rs 71,500 crore in 2018-19: RBI

Over 6,800 cases of bank fraud involving an unprecedented Rs 71,500 crore have been reported in 2018-

19, the Reserve Bank of India has said. A total of 5,916 such cases were reported by banks in 2017-18

involving Rs 41,167.03 crore, it said.

Canara Bank updates rules for cash deposits of up to Rs 50,000

From July 1, Canara Bank customers can deposit cash of up to Rs 50,000 for free only thrice a

month.From the fourth transaction or for cash deposits of over Rs 50,000, there will be a service charge

The Complaint Management System (CMS) is a software application launched by Reserve Bank of

RBI advises commercial banks to adopt Education Loan Scheme

The Reserve Bank of India has advised all Scheduled Commercial Banks to adopt Education Loan

Scheme, formulated by Indian Banks Association.

Loan upto Rs 10 lakh for study in India and upto Rs 20 lakh for study abroad.

Collateral free loans upto Rs 7.5 Lakh under the Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme for Education Loans

(CGFSEL).

No Margin for loan up to Rs 7.50 Lakh.

Repayment period of 15 years.

One Year Moratorium for repayment after completion of studies in all cases.

World Bank approves $147 Million Loan to the Government of Jharkhand

The State Bank of India is planning to expand its market in Singapore by enhancing its relationship across

Banks (DSIBs) and 3.5% for other banks. This has been done to help them boost their lending activities.

India ranked 95th out of 129 countries in a new index that measures global gender equality looking at

aspects such as poverty, health, education, literacy, political representation and equality at the workplace.

Traffic Index-2018: Mumbai ‗Most Congested‘, Delhi Ranks 4th

In the recently released QS World University rankings for 2020, IIT-Bombay which is ranked 152 is

India‘s best university for the second year in a row.

Union Cabinet approves the extension of PM-KISAN scheme

The newly-sworn in NDA government at the Centre has taken four major decisions related to farmers‘ and

traders welfare in the first meeting of the Union Cabinet. It has approved the extension of Pradhan Mantri

Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) to all the farmers in the country. Earlier the benefit of the scheme

was applicable to farmers having two hectares of land.

1. Centre also approved the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Pension Yojana under which small and marginal farmers

will get a minimum fixed pension of 3,000 rupees per month on attaining the age of 60 years.

2. Pradhan Mantri Kisan Pension Yojana scheme aims to initially cover 5 crore farmers in the first 3

years.

3. PM-KISAN scheme was launched in Uttar Pradesh‘s Gorakhpur on 24th February 2019 by transferring

the first installment of ₹2,000 each to over one crore farmers.

Assam govt hikes parental income limit under the fee waiver scheme

Assam government has waived admission fees for students taking admission up to Post Graduate level

whose parental income is less than 2 lakh rupees per year.

All provincialized government colleges and 5 universities are incorporated under the scheme.

Telangana enhances Rythu Bandhu scheme

The Telangana Government has issued a notification to extend the Rythu Bandhu scheme for 2019-20

while enhancing the amount from Rs 4000 to Rs 5000. The Rythu Bandhu scheme, Telangana CM K

Chandrasekar Rao‘s pet scheme, is aimed at providing income support to the agriculturists directly to back

their crops.

Rajasthan government increases financial aid given to girls under ‗Aapki Beti‘ scheme

Rajasthan government has increased the financial assistance given to school girls under the ‗Aapki Beti‘

scheme and ex-gratia payment to the families of polling personnel who die during election duty. Under the

Aapki Beti scheme, girls living under the Below Poverty Line (BPL) and whose mother or father or both

have died to get annual financial assistance in the state.

The amount has been increased to Rs 2,100 from Rs 1,100 for the girls studying in class 1 to 8 and for the

girls in class 9 to 12, the financial aid has been increased to Rs 2,500 from Rs 1,500. Similarly, the

government has also increased ex-gratia payment to the next of kin of an officer killed on election duty to Rs

20 lakh from Rs 15 lakh.

Bihar launches pension scheme for poor

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar launched the Mukhyamantri Vriddha Pension Yojna for poor people

above 60 years of age in the state.

Poor people above 60 years of age will get Rs 400 per month and those above 80 years will get Rs 500

per month. The scheme, which is effective from April 1, 2019, will not cover retired government

employees.

Maha govt announces scheme for smokeless kitchens

A pilot project aimed at providing smoke-free environment in the kitchen for women will be launched by

the Maharashtra government.The project, named ―Chullah (wood-fired stove)-free and smoke-free

Maharashtra‖, will target the women who have not benefited under the Ujjwala or any other LPG

distribution scheme.

Haryana CM announces annual health assistance to 'loktantra senanis'

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced an annual financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to
