    June 2016

Approaching 34 years after I first saw AC/DC I returned to see them for what Isuspect will be the last time. I never once considered getting a refund when it transpired that

Brian Johnson would no longer be fronting the band and that his position would be filled by

erstwhile bad boy Axl Rose. A decision that was to be fully justified.

The prestigious honour of opening for AC/DC on this tour fell to Nashville band

Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown whose biggest claim to fame is that guitarist Graham

Whitfords father is none other than founding Aerosmith member Brad Whitford They were

A solid , all-British, rhythm section, was maintained throughout by drummer Chris

Slade and bassist Cliff Williams whilst the rhythm guitars for the last couple of years have

been handled by Stevie Young who replaced his uncle, Malcolm, who had to, unfortunately,

    retire due to dementia.

The low point, if there was one, came with the run-of-the-mill Got Some Rock &

Roll Thunder from the latest album but the band were immediatelyback on track with Dirty

Deeds Done Dirt Cheap that was a perfect fit for Roses style of delivery and had the crowd

in full voice yet again. Axl Rose continually moved around the stage but throughout the

evening was very respectful and always let Angus take centre stage and never once hogged

the limelight. Rose, indeed, was a revelation and lived up to recent reviews and certainly put

the naysayers in their place, screaming out the songs like his life depended on it, epitomised

    by High Voltage.

Until this evening, I had not quite realised the affection that AC/DC fans hold for

Thunderstruck where The Etihad was literally vibrating down to its foundations. Rock 'n'

Roll Train, already a classic, lacked the impact it had as the opening number on the Black

Ice World Tour; not so Hells Bells with accompanying one tonne bell. Given the Dog a

Bone, If You Want Blood (You've Got It) and Sin City kept up the high energy so it was

even more amazing that it went up another level for You Shook Me All Night Long where

    the whole stadium going wild.

Axl announced it was time to get the big guns out which was not only a cue for
