ACADEMIC AND ADMINISTRATIVE AUDIT REPORT
Introduction:
South Konkan Education Society‟s Rani Parvati Devi College (named after
its patron, the late Rajamata of Sawantwadi) was established in 1945 at Sawantwadi
and later was shifted and located at Belagavi in 1948. The College is spread over a
lush green sprawling campus of 28 acres with built-up area 20934.53 sq mtrs. Over
the decades the society has endeavoured to establish and manage over 15
educational institutions ranging from Kinder Garden to Post-Graduate level and
striving to fulfill its well stated vision „Empowering the individual with knowledge‟.
The RPD College is recognized as a linguistic minority institution offering
education in the streams of Arts, Commerce and Business Administration. The Arts
stream is under grant-in-aid, while the Commerce and Business Administration are
self-finance courses. Apart from Arts, Commerce and Business Administration
Courses, the college is conducting a UGC sponsored certificate course in Kannada
for non-Kannada students and self-finance certificate course in Yoga Studies,
History, Political Science and Computer Applications. Since its inception in 1945,
the college was affiliated to the Karnatak University, Dharwad and following Rani
Channamma University‟s establishment in 2010, Belagavi, it got affiliated to Rani
Channamma University. In 1964, the UGC accorded the 2(f) and 12(B) status to the
college. In 2009, the NAAC awarded the „B‟ Grade to the college. The college has
been inclusive to accommodate socially and economically marginalized rural based
and vernacular medium students. Thus, the college has shown its concern and
commitment for social justice, ensuring equity and expanding the access to higher
education.
Objectives:
The RPD College has thoughtfully formulated its vision and mission keeping
in view the fast changing globalised world. The main objectives of the College are:
1. To transfer the relevance of the study of Humanities, Social Sciences,
Commerce and Management in this globalised world, fostering self respect
and a belief in the intrinsic goodness of human beings.

6 Rani Parvati Devi College of Arts, Commerce & BBA, Belagavi
2. To perceive the relevance of Indian sensibility and value system in a
globalised era.
3. To sensitize the students in areas of business ethics and corporate social
responsibility.
4. To foster an atmosphere of mutual respect and responsibility with gender
sensitivity to sustain a stable family value system towards building a
harmonious society and nation.
Infrastructure:
True to its objectives the College has functionally three tier organization
structure to manage and monitor administration and also to gain the important place
in the society. The major plus point of this college is its well-established
infrastructure, being supportive to curricular, extra-curricular and co-curricular
activities on healthy lines. The college premises reflects a blend of historical and
modern structures housing the classrooms, catering to the needs of more than 1400
students. Classrooms are well-equipped with adequate furniture, lighting and
ventilation. Apart from this, the college is having three audio-visual fitted halls and
smart boards, LCD projectors and computer systems to help ICT enabled teaching-
learning. College library has rich collection of books (print and electronic) to meet
the changing demands of user community. To cope up with ever expanding fields of
knowledge, the library is sufficiently equipped with ICT facilities, useful software
packages and congenial environment to impart innovative teaching-learning
programmes.
Hostels for boys and girls have been provided with recreation and reading
halls. Computer labs with Internet connectivity as well as the computer systems to
the departments and office are provided. In recent years, active efforts are going on
to provide Wi-Fi facility, electronic display boards, smarts classes, CCTV, Kindle
e-readers, etc. Separate ladies rooms with all the basic amenities, Auditorium
canteen (open between 7.30 am to 5.30 pm), Yoga and meditation hall, open air
theatre a large playground and mini stadium are the most essential feature of the
college campus.

Teaching-Learning:
The College has planned programmes to provide exposure to enhance the
students‟ learning experience by way of field trips, study tours, industrial visits, in-
plant training and arranging departmental trips. In addition, guest lectures, invited
talks, Annual Founders‟ Day lecture and other memorial lectures are also arranged
from time to time. In order to encourage the students to shape their future and avail
suitable jobs, the college has made ample provisions for students‟ support services.
Due importance is given for the faculty enrichment and several need-based
awareness programmes, trainings and workshops have been the integral part of the
college academic activity. It is a matter of pride that this college is encouraging the
faculty and students to publish their creative output through in-house journal
„Sophia‟, and a miscellany called „Anamika‟ and students wall-paper „Umaid‟.
Special Features:
It is a rare privilege of this college to have established IGNOU study centre
which is taking the higher education to the doors of the otherwise deprived aspirants.
More than anything a significant number of college students are able to pursue
different useful certificate and diploma courses. Above all the teaching faculty is
getting an opportunity in teaching and counselling the distant learners.
The RPD College has demonstrated the credible social responsibility by
organizing and participating in several national and international programmes and
movements. As a part of its future development, the college has drawn a viable road
map in which it is planned to start vocational, B.Ed, courses in emerging subjects
and enter into MoU with NGOs, Industries and educational institutions.
Teaching faculty of RPD College forms a strong backbone of teaching,
learning, research, publication and over all academic development. Many of them
have undertaken research activities and availed of major and minor research
projects. Some of the faculty have been associated with literary, cultural and social
organizations and contributed in their own way to make their identity felt by others.
All of them are committed and working as a team to achieve the academic
excellence. At the same, the Management of the college is overwhelmingly
supportive to the progress of the college. Consistent and constant monitoring of all

the college as a college of difference among the other affiliated colleges of Rani
Channamma University.
