SynopsisThe lives of children in the present day are highly regulated and controlled. Non-direcPve playtherapy offers a child the opportunity of making choices and taking responsibility for them;expressing him/herself freely; being accepted uncondiPonally; having his/her deepest feelingsrespectedandaccepted. For these reasons theirplay is not interpretedandno judgements aremade.
Suchfreedomsmayonlybeobtainedbytheprovisionofastrongframework.Thereforetheadulttakes responsibility for the safety of the child, themselves and the environment.Within theseconstraints,thechildhascompletefreedomtochoose.Timeboundariesarealsoconsideredtobeimportantthusaddingasenseofsecuritybyadheringtobeginningsandends.InthiswaythePmewithinasessionbecomesPmelessandthechild’simaginaPonissetfreetoexploreandrecreatehis/herexperiencesandtocreateandmakehis/herownworld.

We are working towards achievingrecogniPon for this discipline in South Africa but unPl that point, the course and qualificaPonsmeetthehighstandardsofrelevantauthoriPesintheUK.
The Register includes pracPPoners living and working outside the UK. The PSA approved PlayTherapy UK standards are used as de facto standards in countries where there is no naPonalgovernment regulaPon of the Play Therapy profession and are administered by Play TherapyInternaPonal(PTI).
