EBook Academy: Account Information to Access eBook Services
Different eBook services have different log-in requirements. You can use this sheet to
keep track of reminders for the different log-ins. However, we recommend that if you
choose to record your log-in information, use symbols, hints, or a code (not the actual
passwords) in case the sheet is lost. For example, if I use a childhood pet’s name as my
password plus a number, I might write childhooddog1 as my reminder. Try to choose a
password that can be used for all the eBook services to help you remember. Hints for
picking a password are below.
Library Card number (or username) and PIN: Most subscription services will
require that you provide proof that you are a member of the subscribed library
before you can access the service. Refer to the home library to know which
services are available to you.
Library Card Number and/or username PIN
iTunes (or appropriate app store) Account: To download the reading apps to
your mobile device, you will need an account with the app store for your device.
For Apple products (like the iPad), you need an Apple ID. This Apple ID can be
used across all Apple services. Use your existing one if you have one. If you
don’t already have one, you can use the link below, or set one up the first time
you try to download an app. You do not need to have a credit card.

Adobe ID: Some services require use of an Adobe ID for the Digital Rights
Management (DRM) of the epub eBook format. This is how the service tracks
the expiration dates of your materials and prevents illegal copying. Each person
only needs one Adobe ID and can use it for any system that requires it. You can
also use it for subscriptions and purchases from Adobe. Set it up during the
eBook checkout process or set it up separately at:

How to pick a password:
Don’t use any personal information like your name, social security number,
birthday, address, or children’s names.
Do use a combination of characters with symbols, numbers, and upper and
lowercase letters.
Do make it at least 8 characters long.
One easy way to create a very secure password is to intersperse two easy to
remember parts, for example your mother’s maiden name and your childhood
home zip code: Smith and 30002 can turn into: S3m0i0t0h2. Or the simpler
version: Smi30002th. To make it more secure, substitute in some symbols:
$mi30002th
Another method is to use an easy to remember phrase and pick only the first
letters, then substitute symbols. And she’s buying a stairway to heaven – Led
Zeppelin becomes a$basthLZ.
