1 Self-cateredaccommodationOn central campus, Turing andKeynes offer en-suite bedroomsin flats and rooms in houses withshared bathroom facilities. TylerCourt offers flats with en-suitebedrooms, and houses with sharedbathroom facilities are availableat Darwin College.

Our student village, Park Wood,also offers en-suite bedrooms inflats and more than 260 five orsix-bedroom houses with sharedbathroom facilities. Park Wood islocated in a beautiful woodlandsetting and is just a few minutes’walk from central campus.

UNDERGRADUATEACCOMMODATION AT CANTERBURYAccommodation is offeredto all new, eligible, full-time students for theirfirst year of study. Setwithin 300 acres ofparkland, the Canterburycampus offers:

• over 4,500 bedrooms for singleoccupancy

Kent has three accommodationoptions for undergraduate students.

All self-catered accommodationis offered for a fixed period fromSeptember to June, which includesthe winter and spring vacations.

2 Part-cateredaccommodation –bed and bistroThis accommodation packageis available to residents of the mainbuilding at Keynes College and atBecket Court. It includes an en-suitebedroom, weekday breakfasts anddinners in our flagship bistro DolcheVita, located in Keynes College, andweekend meals in the dining hallat Rutherford College, during term-time. This accommodation is offeredfor a fixed period from Septemberto June, excluding the winterand spring vacations.

3 Part-cateredaccommodation –bed and flex This accommodation package isavailable to residents of Eliot andRutherford Colleges. It includes anallowance of £8 per day to spendon food in a choice of nine venues,seven days per week, during termtime. Accommodation is offered fora fixed period from September toJune, including the winter andspring vacations (except theUniversity’s two-week closureover Christmas and New Year).

UNDERGRADUATE ACCOMMODATION AT CANTERBURY (CONT)

Kent is one of only a few universitiesin the UK to offer accommodationin a college environment. Thecolleges at Kent have their owndistinctive character and offer awelcoming and diverse community,where it’s easy to make new friendswith students from around the world.

Turing College offers self-cateredaccommodation in flats with en-suitebedrooms or houses with sharedbathroom facilities.

Darwin College offers self-cateredaccommodation. Rooms haveshared bathroom facilities andaccess to large, shared kitchens.

Eliot and Rutherford Collegesoffer part-catered accommodation.Rooms are arranged in corridors,with shared toilet and shower/bathfacilities. Corridors include a smallkitchenette with a fridge, kettle andmicrowave, for the preparation ofhot drinks and light snacks only.

Both Eliot and Rutherford Collegesoffer the bed-and-flex diningscheme, which provides cateringoptions on an inclusive allowanceacross campus seven days a week,during term-time; see p3 for details.

Keynes College and Becket Courtoffer accommodation on a bed-and-bistro basis. All rooms have

en-suite facilities and you haveaccess to a small kitchenette.Weekday breakfasts and eveningmeals are served in KeynesCollege’s bistro, Dolche Vita, andat weekends meals are servedin Rutherford dining hall, duringterm-time.

Accommodation is offeredto new, eligible, full-timestudents in their firstyear of study.

Woolf College provides on-campusaccommodation for postgraduatestudents in a diverse community,with more than 60 nationalitiesrepresented. It has a lecture theatreand seminar rooms so you live andstudy in a thriving community.

Each of the 544 single occupancybedrooms has its own shower,washbasin and toilet, and everyroom has both wired and Wi-Fiinternet access. The accommodationcomprises flats with six or eightstudents sharing a large, fullyequipped kitchen. There arealso some self-contained studiorooms with their own cookingfacilities. Woolf College has itsown launderette.

Only full-time postgraduate studentson a 12-month programme of studystarting in September are eligible foraccommodation at Woolf College.

You should apply online by 31July 2016 to qualify for an offerof accommodation. After this date,you will be offered accommodationsubject to eligibility and availability.Postgraduates on short-termexchange or diploma programmes,whose academic registrationis for less than 12 months or whoseprogramme begins other than inSeptember, will be housed inPark Wood.

The University has only a few roomssuitable for couples. We regret thatthere is no accommodation suitablefor students with children.

Off-campusaccommodationIf you prefer to live in private rentedaccommodation, you should onlychoose property that meets themanagement and safety standardsof a private rented sector housingaccreditation scheme. Car parkingParking on campus is restrictedand our green transport strategyencourages students not to bringcars on to the campus. If you liveon campus, you may not bringyour car to the University. Theonly exception is for students withsevere disabilities. Students wholive off campus, outside designatedpostcode areas of Canterbury citycentre, can apply for a parkingpermit from the Estates Departmentafter arriving at Kent. Second to final-yearstudentsSecond to final-year studentsare expected to join with friendsto rent houses or flats off campus inCanterbury or the surrounding area.

Canterbury is a welcoming andstudent-friendly city, just a 25-minutewalk or ten-minute bus-ride fromthe campus. Much of its medievalhistory is evident in its ancientstreets and buildings. The citycentre has a cosmopolitanatmosphere, as befits Britain’sclosest city to continental Europe.

The 2016/17 rental levels for a singleroom in a shared self-catered houseoff campus range from £85 to £100a week, excluding utility bills. Mostprivate landlords require students tocommit to housing agreements thatcover 52 weeks.

OFF-CAMPUS ACCOMMODATIONAT CANTERBURY

Accredited housingCanterbury has an accreditationscheme for student housing, whichis designed to recognise landlordswho are concerned for the health,safety and welfare of their studenttenants. These landlords haveagreed to follow a Code of Conductto ensure fair, efficient managementof their properties, to confirm thatthey are of a high standard and thatthey meet all legal obligations. Kent and CanterburyThe county of Kent is known as the‘Garden of England’ and offers youan opportunity to live and study inone of the most picturesque areasof the country. The nearest seasidetown to Canterbury is Whitstable,offering water sports includingwindsurfing, yachting and water-skiing. The coastal towns of HerneBay, Ramsgate, Margate, Deal andBroadstairs are also close by.

Transport linksLondon is just under an hour awayby high-speed train and there is afrequent coach service to Londonand beyond. You can be in Parisor Brussels in around two hoursby train from the Channel Tunnel atFolkestone or the Eurostar terminalat Ashford and cross-channel ferriessail daily from Dover to Calais andDunkirk.

Liberty QuaysLiberty Quays is part of a dynamicwaterside village, Victory Pier, on thebanks of the River Medway next toGillingham Marina, and the siteof our bar and bistro, Cargo, whichwon the ‘Best Bar’ concept in the U Dine Awards 2015. It is just aten-minute walk from the Medwaycampus, with its own Tesco Express,Subway and Domino’s Pizza outlets.

LocationThe centre is ideally located inthe Athenian suburb of Eleusina,the birthplace of Aeschylus andone of the most importantarchaeological religious sitesin the world as a location of theEleusinian Mysteries. The centreof Athens is only 30km away, andas such you have close access tomany other major historical sites,including the Parthenon, AncientCorinth, Nemea and Thebes.

Transport linksAthens is served by EleftheriosVenizelos International Airport35km away. The city has excellenttransport links, including buses,rail, metro and tram services.

BrusselsAccommodationAlthough the University does notoffer campus accommodationin Brussels, there is a wealthof affordable private rental optionsavailable and students usuallyfind a place to live shortly afterarrival. Studio apartments, withall charges (utility) included, costapproximately €550-750 a monthand a one-bedroom apartment isapproximately €650-850 a month.Most students choose to share anapartment and this will cost around€350-450, including utilities.

Brussels School of InternationalStudies, the University of Kent’sBrussels centre, is located closeto the student district between ourpartner universities, Vrije UniversiteitBrussel (VUB) and the UniversitéLibre de Bruxelles (ULB). Much ofthe housing is a short walk from theUniversity and is designed forstudents in layout and price.

Modern city campusThe centre has its own purpose-designed facilities, a 15-minutedrive from the centre of Brusselsand close to a metro station, a trainstation and regular bus and tramservices. Kent students have fullaccess to all the facilities on theVUB and ULB campuses, includinglibraries, public computers, bars,cafés and sports facilities.

Local attractionsBrussels is a diverse city, witharchitecture ranging from medievalrampart walls to the impressivemodern architecture built to houseseveral institutions of the EuropeanUnion. Popular attractions in the cityinclude the Grand Place square withits Gothic and baroque architecture,the 15th-century Hôtel de Ville, and

the Cathedral of St Michael andSt Gudula. Brussels has over 80museums and many beautiful parksand open spaces, including theParc du Cinquantenaire.

Transport linksWhile Brussels is a relatively smallcity for a European capital and iseasy to get around on foot, the goodpublic transport system makes iteasy to travel quickly around thecity. Buses, trams and metros runon a regular schedule and aregenerally very reliable.

Etterbeek railway station, 50 metresfrom our Brussels centre, providesregular connections with Schuman,Brussels Nord and Brussels Midistations. Tram lines 7 and 25 stopat Arsenal, which is situated acrossthe road from the Brussels centre.The centre is a short walk, acrossthe VUB Etterbeek campus, fromthe Pétillon metro station.
