Internet Acceptable Use Agreement
Internet access is available to students and staff in the
Summer Arts Workshop. With access to computers and
people all over the world also comes the availability of
material that may not be of educational value in the
context of the workshop setting. The Caldwell-West
Caldwell School District is taking precautions to restrict
the access of controversial materials that may be on the
internet. Our staff is trained on internet use and policies
and filtering hardware and software is in place.
However, on a global network, it is impossible to control
all materials and industrious users may discover
controversial information on their own.
The following guidelines are provided so that users are
aware of the responsibilities they are about to acquire.
In general, this requires efficient, ethical, and legal
utilization of the network and internet resources. If a
Workshop participant violates any of these provisions,
their internet access will be terminated pending
appropriate action.
The signature(s) on the Registration Form is (are) legally
binding and indicates the party (parties) who signed has
(have) read the terms and conditions carefully and
understand(s) their significance.
INTERNET TERMS AND CONDITIONS
ACCEPTABLE USE: The use of your account must be in
support of education and research consistent with the
educational goals and objectives of the Caldwell-West
Caldwell School District. Use of other organization’s
network or computing resources must comply with the
rules appropriate for that network. Transmission of any
material in violation of any national or state regulation is
prohibited. This includes but is not limited to:
copyrighted material, threatening or obscene material
or material protected by trade secret.
PRIVILEGES: The use of the internet is a privilege, not a
right. Students will receive training as to proper use of
the network. Inappropriate use will result in a
cancellation of those privileges and disciplinary action.
Administrators will deem what is inappropriate and their
decision is final. Also, an administrator may close an
account at any time as required. The school district may
deny, revoke, or suspend specific use accounts as
deemed necessary.
NETWORK ETIQUETTE: Users are expected to abide
by the generally accepted rules of network etiquette.
These include (but are not limited to) the following:
Be polite. Do not get abusive in messages to others.
Use appropriate language. Do not swear, use
vulgarities, or any other inappropriate language. Illegal
activities are strictly forbidden.
Do not reveal full names, personal addresses, or phone
numbers of yourself or anyone else.
Understand that electronic mail (e-mail) is not
guaranteed to be private. People who operate the
system do have access to all mail. Messages relating to
or in support of illegal activities may be reported to the

disrupt the use of the network by other users.
All communications and information accessible via the

CALCULATING COMPUTERS
FUN WITH COMPUTERS (All Grades) – Learning the basics of
Word and PowerPoint to prepare children for success in their
elementary school. This course will give young learners a jump
start in their knowledge of computers. Students will learn how to
save, print, create and scan in the computer lab. They will have the
opportunity to design and create T-shirts. Your imagination is the
limit to what can be done! Fridays are always internet game days.
WEB DESIGN (Grades 4-9) - Students will learn how to design
Web Sites, using free software available on the internet. Internet
safety is stressed throughout the course. This course is specifically
designed for the older students. Exceptions are considered based
upon individual skills. The course allows students to create web
site topics geared to their individual interests. Creativity and
imagination in their designs are always encouraged.
NOTE: Students must provide their own USB drive for all computer
classes in order to save their work.
CREATING WITH CRAFTS
CERAMICS (All Grades) – We will learn the basic pinch pot
technique combining this with a fun and functional project of Pinch
Pot Birdhouses. Along with this, we will briefly learn about native
birds that live in our area as well as having the opportunity to glaze
the houses so they can be used outdoors. We will also create
sculptures that will be ”tough as stone.” After firing, we will use
special “stone” paint to give their creations a realistic stone
texture.
The students will have the opportunity to create functional mugs.
Using the “slab” technique, students will roll out clay, assemble
mugs, add handles, and use food safe glazes to create their own one-of-a-kind mugs. Using plaster mold forms, students can create
bowls, plates and platters that can be made functional with food
safe glazes
POTTERY WHEEL (Grades 6-9) - Advanced students will be given
instruction on throwing techniques in the use of the Pottery Wheel.
This will include centering, shaping, and finishing their wheel
projects. In addition, we will work with plaster molds to create
bowls and plates that can be used with real food.
MIXED CRAFTS (All Grades) – The class will begin the summer
using recycled and natural materials to make handmade one of a
kind paper, woven brown bag baskets, and cool origami creations.
Students will use their handmade paper to create a Japanese bound
book. They will also learn the secrets to creating a themed
accordion book and a pop-up book. Older students will design
their own tinted glue papers to decorate a handmade personal
journal. Using their imaginations, the students will create
spectacular masks and will use paper mache, feathers, beads, and
glitter to design and decorate their masks. The summer will
conclude with learning different stitches for friendship bracelets,
patterns to create beaded creatures, pendants, and bead making
(with paper, clay and string).
DRAWING - THE MOST IMMEDIATE ART (All Grades) – This
workshop will demonstrate some fantastic illusions of depth. The
students will draw portraits, a silly beast or maybe a Van Gogh Still
Life, a collage, and a drawing with string materials. Everyone will
work at their own pace.
THE PAINTER’S BRUSH (Grades 6-9) – This class will use “wet
media”, water color, and acrylic paint on canvas. Think you are not
an artist? We beg to differ! Join in on The Painter’s Brush and
you’ll see. The hardest part is that first stroke!
![Page 5: accommodate children’s choices. Computer Workshop€¦ · REGISTER BY JUNE 7, 2013 AND DEDUCT $5 Early registration is encouraged since enrollment is limited. If space is available,](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022071115/5ffbbaaf13c7d4623755b453/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
DISCOVER THE JOY OF DANCE
Jazz is a dance form that appeals to everyone because of its energy,
variety and use of well-known pop music. The classes are upbeat
and begin with a warm-up, followed by movement across the floor,
and choreographed combinations of rhythmic movements
including turns and leaps.
Grades 2-4: Learn basic body isolations, stretching exercises, and
jazz movements to show tunes and contemporary music.
Grades 5-6: Learn choreographic routines to show tunes and
contemporary music geared to performance.
Grades 7-9: For the advanced student, exposure to different
musical styles. Develop full dance routines to contemporary shows
and popular music.
DEVELOP DRAMA
ACTING WORKSHOP (Grades 2-9)
Our theme this year is “From Page to Stage.” The class will take
popular characters from children’s literature and put them in new
situations. Would the Wizard of Oz be good friends with Harry
Potter? Instead of meeting the Cheshire Cat in Wonderland, what if
Alice met The Cat in the Hat? We’ll answer these questions and
more this summer.
JUNIOR MUSICAL THEATER (Grades 2-5) - Children will be
introduced to the world of musical theater and learning to sing,
dance, and act with fellow peers to easy music. This year’s Junior
Musical Theater’s presentation will focus on our theme “From Page
to Stage.” Students will sing and dance to songs that evolve from
stories based on popular characters from children’s literature.
MUSICAL THEATER (Grades 5-9)
THIS CLASS IS A DOUBLE PERIOD, AND STUDENTS MUST BE
PRESENT FOR THE COMPLETE 4-WEEK WORKSHOP.
A musical theater class designed for students entering grade 5.
This class will focus on singing, dancing, and acting at a more
advanced level. Students can explore their love of theater while
having fun. They will dance and sing to music related to this year’s
theme of “From Page to Stage.” Let your inner star shine, and join
us for some singing and dancing!
HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER ART STUDIO
This open studio is designed for students to work on a drawing,
painting, sculpture, or ceramics portfolio or project of their choice.
Teachers will be available to instruct and assist as needed. Also,
students will have the option to exhibit their work as part of the
workshop’s final presentation. As an open studio, students
determine their own attendance provided they sign in and out on a
daily basis. An additional studio fee will be charged to cover
instructional time and supplies.
HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER MUSICAL THEATER INTENSIVE
This course will explore the many facets of the American musical
theater in terms of acting technique, monologue and scene study,
dialects, stage combat, vocal technique, song interpretation,
“Glee” style show choir, and dance technique and performance
(jazz, tap, ballet). This is an opportunity to “major” in musical
theater for the summer by following a conservatory style schedule.
The course will culminate with a variety show focused on each
participant’s individual talents as well as fully staged group
numbers.
