1 INTRODUCTION ROMWalks are given by the Department of Museum Volunteers at the Royal Ontario Museum. The season is from May to October and consists of:

1.1 Free ROMWalks This year, 36 free walks, of 9 neighbourhoods will be offered. No registration needed. Meet at designated spot just before starting time. Walks are on Sundays at 2pm and Wednesdays at 6pm. Information is available at https://www.rom.on.ca/romwalks or call 416.586.8097

1.2 ROMWalks Plus Three different walks will be offered this 2019 walking season for a limited number of participants. The cost is $10.00 per person. Tickets must be reserved in advance and can be booked online at www.rom.on.ca/romwalks or call 416.586.5797 for information and to reserve tickets.

1.3 Member Exclusive ROMWalks These Member exclusive walks are free for Members, however registration is required. Due to the popularity of these walks, registration will not open until a month prior to the scheduled walk. Watch your email communication for registration dates and register at www.rom.on.ca/members/events or call 416.586.5700.

1.4 Private Group ROMWalks Our private group walks are available for all scheduled 2019 ROMWalks, plus these additional walks:

Michael’s University, Victoria University. Learn their stories and their secrets, while seeing some new and interesting Toronto architecture.

3.1.3 Route goes from the front of the provincial legislative building, north on the west side and along to Wellesley & Queen’s Park Circle, north to St Joseph Street, through the St Michael’s College & Victoria College campuses, ending at the Isabel Bader Theatre.

its old mansions and churches and has acquired new architectural gems too. A walk down this street provides insight into its elegant past and energetic present.

3.5.2 In one of Toronto’s largest cemeteries, we will stroll through the beautiful treed landscape and hear the stories of people who were influential in the growth of Toronto during the Victorian era. We will learn about mourning customs, memorial styles and the meaning of symbols found on the monuments and mausoleums.

3.5.3 The route is circular within the western section of Mount Pleasant cemetery starting and ending at the entrance on Yonge Street.

for Toronto’s wealthy citizens in the early 1900s. We’ll view a National Historic Site and admire impressive domestic architecture built in a wide variety of styles over 150 years.

3.8.3 The route proceeds north on Park Road to South Drive via Severn Street, north on South Drive to Crescent Road, then west along Crecent to Cluny Drive, to Chestnut Park, ending at Chestnut Park and Roxborough Street East closest to Yonge Street.

into the centre of the city of North York priortotheamalgamationof Toronto. We will also explore the tranquility, history and residents ofYork Cemetery just steps fromthebusytrafficand towering building of Yonge Street in the former North York.

3.9.3 The route proceeds from Mel Lastman Square to Gibson Park and Dempsey Park, inside York Cemetery, then along North York Boulevard to Yonge Street at Mel Lastman Square.

4.1 Annex West 4.1.1 Sundays, September 1 and October 6 at 2:00 pm 4.1.2 Come and explore the Annex neighbourhood west of Spadina. Learn about

the people and places including churches, schools, an historic pub, and a fire station - all spiced up with an occasional murder.

4.2 King Street East: Newspapers and Newsmakers 4.2.1 Sundays, June 9 and September 15 at 2:00 pm 4.2.2 Join us in exploring the characters who have shaped Toronto’s history along

its first main street, and the colourful history of the newspapers that have headquartered their operations there from the1820’s to the present day.

4.3 Riverdale 4.3.1 Sundays, July 7 and August 11 at 2:00 p.m. 4.3.2 Join us on a tour through Riverdale whose history includes indigenous

settlement, brickmakers, jailbreakers, medical facilities, a park and a Russian royal. Discover how this east end area has evolved over two centuries and continues to reflect the changing demographics of the city.

5 Member Exclusive ROMWalks

5.1 Arts & Entertainment 5.1.1 Saturdays, May 18 and August 10 5.1.2 Revisit the Entertainment District, rich in the early history of city expansion

and immigration, and now a vibrant area filled with theatres and upscale hotels. This walk will focus on the Arts and Entertainment of the past and present. It will include architecture as well as public art by Canadian artists.

5.2 Necropolis 5.2.1 Saturdays, June 15 and October 5 5.2.2 Toronto’s oldest non-denominational cemetery, the Necropolis is the final

resting place of rebels and reformers as well as many of Toronto’s early residents.

5.3 Waterfront 5.3.1 Saturdays, July 13 (also in French) and September 14 5.3.2 While strolling along Queens Quay from Bathurst to Queen’s Quay Terminal,

learn about the evolution of Toronto’s waterfront from its industrial and commercial origins. This tour will explore history, art and architecture as well as the recent, transformative revitalization of this area of the City.
