HE: RAVENA MINE
LETTER FROM CAP!'. ISAAC POLHAMUS TO HARRY L. DUTY
Mr. Harry L. Vuty, V. Pres. Ravena Mining ~o. Yuma. Arizona
My dear Mr. Vuty:
Yuma. Ari Z ona Deoember 26, 1917.
With referenoe to your 1nquiry as to the merits of your
propert1es ot the Ravena Mining Company; part ot whioh was formerly
operated under the name or the "Gallo Ulnes" I take pleasure in
giving you the follow1ng information.
I was superintendent and operated several steamboats on the
Colorado tti var from 1856 to 1~04. and at the time wben the Clip and the
Gallo Mines were in opera ti on, trenspor ted all th eir ore to Yuma t Ar1z.
Inasmuoh as I was one of the original owners of that property, I ought
to know what I speak about wh~n I say that ~llionswere taken tram the
property.
I havepersonally gone over the ground, now owned by
your oompany. a number of t1IQ.es and must aoknowledge that 1t has only
been sora t ohed ' . At the time the "Clip" and "Gallo " mines were
operated, the plant was entirely too small, and your property should
eas11y keep a 300 ton or even a 100 ton plant gp1ng tor the next fitteen
or twenty years.
I know from personal experienoe and investigation that
your property has a large and assured tonnage of are, r10h "n silver
and oonta1n1ng paying quantit1es of free mil11ng gold , and always
was and atill am greatly impressed with the value of the property.
I do not hesitate to s§ly the t 1 t 1s one of t ,ll e most promising pr.oper tias
1n the Southwest.
I have been identified with mines and mini ng propeJ;'ti es ,
freighting and other enterprises in the stateo! Arizona for over 60
years.
Trust1ng that your oompany· w111 meet with SUooess and
with best Wishes, I am Sinoerely yours,
(Signed) OAPTAIN ISAAC POLHIMUS
Letter from John Gandolfo, retired oapitalist
to Harry L. Duty, Ywaa. Arizona, January 5. 1917.
Mr. Harry L. Duty, V. pres. Ravena lUning (;0. YUma, Arizona
My dear Mr. Duty:
With referenoe to our oonversation last t ight relative
to your property , the Ravena Mining Co., I am very please d to muke
the following statement: I
In the sev~nt1e6 I owned and operated a meroentile
establishment in th1s o1ty and at that t1me Mr. A. G. Hubbard
operated the old Clip and Gallo Mines. Mr . Hubbard made his fortune
trom these mines and many other people were made independent from
their production. I furnished nearly all the supplies to Mr. Hubbard
as well as to Mr Levy, who ran the store at oamp. Work was only
suspended when the prioe of silver went to f1fty o~nts. but, even
at that prioe. I em sure, it a large enough and modern m1ll had been
ereoted, 1 t still would have been a well paying proposi ti on to v ork
t he mines. It your oomp any oan get one of these plants, I see no
reason why you should not make a fortune.
You oertainly have a tine and large property and one
that will pay well when operated oommensurate with 1t~ masnitude. and
I'll ·oerta1nl~be glad to see it oome to the traa' again,
With the vary best wishes tor your suooess. I re~int

Dear Sir:
Letter from Henry Levy, Ch1er ot Polioe ot Yuma to Win. Platt 8mi the
Y\lJl16, Arizona Deoember 15. 1917.
Mr. H. L. Duty has just asked me to wr1te you ot ~y
knowledge of the Clip and Gallo Mines.
In the olden days thew were Qonsolidated. and at the end
the Gallo alone was worked, being the richer. My father ran the
store and had interests 1n the proper'ty for a number ot years.
Several millions were made i n these mines, my father alone mak1ng
,100,000.
~he property 1s looated in the rich silver distriot and
a number of the old mines in the same looality are opening up, and now
th at silver is high, a large amount of money should be Jj.ade,.
Tbere is still a large magnitude of ore in the Gallo.
operations being stopped thirty years ago when the prioe dropped out
at silver.
Trusting that this 1s the desired information, I remain

Letter trom w. s. Horan, prominent ranoh owner to Harry L.Du~
Bard, California
Mr. Harry L. Duty, V. Pres. Ravena Mining Co. Yuma. Arizona
My dear Mr. Duty:
Deoem_ar, 26, 1917
During the early days in Arizona, I operated a stage from
what is now your property to Yuma. and I know that part of th ~ oountry it
well. I an also satisf1ed tbat/is one ot the riohest, m1neralized
distriots in tbe state or Arizona. and I am glad to know tbat work w111
be resumed there again,
All 'the old tlme,rs 1n this part ot th e oountry ere tho-
~ough11 and well familiar with the history ot Mr. A. G. Hubba~d, a
retired millionaire, living ~~ Redlands, California. Mr. Hubbard
made h1s fortune trom the old "C11p ,~ and Gallo IUnes and only qui t
when the prioe 01' s11vdr went down to 50¢. He operated a very small
plant, and I do not besitate to state tbat it a large or even a
medium sized plant would be ereoted on your property, it should be a
good money maker. As I understand it, part of your propert,y was
formerly the old "Gallo" Mine and that vein c~ntinues into your
property. It' that is so you oertainly beve e very fine pieoe 01'
property and 1 t should be a large and eU paying produoer.
I wish you everysuooes8 and hope to see your plant 1n
full running order 1n the very near future,
Yours ver.f truly,
(Signed) W. S. HORAN
