Falls from height remain the dominant cause of fatal and serious injuries in the construction industry. Since 2001, an average of 50 people in Great Britain have died each year as a result of a fall from height and a further 8,702 are seriously injured. Don’t let a fall shatter your life!
Selecting the correct equipment for the job and ensuring it is fit for purpose is essential to safe working at height.
ScaffoldingProperly designed and constructed scaffolding has a key role to play in reducing the toll of injuries. The Work at Height Regulations 2005 (WAHR) require that strength and stability calculations are carried out for all scaffold structures unless they conform to a recognised standard. The responsibility for ensuring that this duty is met falls to both the scaffolding contractor and his client. TG20:13 provides a standard for traditional tube and fitting scaffolds to help industry manage safety risks effectively.
Scaffold towersIf you use any item of work at height equipment in the workplace including a scaffold tower, either as an employee or as a self-employed person, the WAHR apply to you. EN1004 scaffold towers provide a very safe method for working at height if they are assembled, used and dismantled exactly following the manufacturer’s instructions and information. There is a significant and serious difference between scaffold towers that conform to EN1004 and those that do not.
DON’T RISK YOUR OWN LIFE OF THE LIVES OF OTHERS.
