ACCELERATIONTHE CHANGE IN VELOCITY
ACCELERATION
•Acceleration is the rate of change in an object’s velocity.
•The unit is m/s²
•Velocity / time = (m/s)/s = m/s²
•Average acceleration is found by using the
following equation:
•
ACCELERATION: CAR EXAMPLE
The 2015 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has a
0-60 mph in 3.5s
ACCELERATION: CAR EXAMPLE
0-60 mph in 3.5s
With this data we can calculate the average acceleration.

MARIO AND PHYSICS
Mario throws a fireball straight up with an initial velocity of 29.4 m/s ~ 66 mph.
It reach its peak at 3.0 s, and then lands back in Mario’s hand at 6.0 s. Find the average acceleration.
