An old friend of mine used to call Pride, , and as we prepare for next week's events it's sure starting to feel pretty festive around here! We at the Avenue Community Centre are excited to join the Saskatoon Diversity Network in making sure that the 2014 Saskatoon Pride Festival is a true celebration of trans*, lesbian, bisexual, and gay rights, as well as a platform for visibility, acceptance, and recognition of the vast spectrum of gender and sexual diversity that makes up our Saskatoon community. And with such a celebratory week, it is also our hope that the energy and acceptance garnered during Pride Week stretches year-round!
The SDN has worked hard to put together a program that includes more events than any year previous, so please come on down to the ACC or check out the official website to get more information about what's in store and how you can volunteer. Of course, the ACC is particularly excited for our annual BBQ
thon June 18 which we host with Sexual Health Centre Saskatoon. All of your favourite local organizations will be in attendance and this year we will also be hosting a garage sale! Our office is bursting at the seams with one-of-a-kind finds, so please help ensure that we don't have to haul
thanything back upstairs. On Thursday, June 19 , we will be at the Mosaic Art and Fashion show to present our
to an incredible group of movers and shakers. And last but not least, we will be shaking our tail feathers at the
on June 21st! We'd love to have you all walk with us, give us a wave, or pop by our table at the Community Fair to say hello and maybe pick up one of our new . Can't wait to paint the town with a kaleidoscope of COLOUR!

Our fabulous team continues to grow around here and we are happy to announce that after getting us through Pink Revolution, and doing an excellent job to boot, Joe Wickenhauser accepted a full time position as the ACC's new Communications and Events Coordinator. Joe is full of great ideas, has an eye for detail, and brings a welcome dose of humour to our work! We can't wait to roll out some of his new events and communication strategies in the coming year!
We were also lucky to secure not one, but two, fantastic summer students this year. Vic Cowan is our Programming Assistant for the summer months, and has been putting excellent writing and editing abilities to work in updating our pamphlets and other resources. Vic will also be helping to develop programming and educational materials for the coming year. Chelle Matthews is our Summer Events Coordinator, so she is one of the masterminds behind our upcoming Pride Events and will be helping us prepare for AIDS Walk 2014. Chelle has also put expert research skills to work in the preparation of some important material supporting Trans rights in Saskatchewan!
Welcome Joe, Vic, and Chelle!
