The New Urban Agenda (NUA) acknowledges the centrality of Food Security and Nutrition in Planning for Sustainable Cities.
“ We commit ourselves... to improving food security and nutrition, physical and mental health... ” [New Urban Agenda - clause 67]
“ We will promote the integration of food security and nutritional needs of urban residents, particularly the urban poor, in urban and territorial planning, in order to end hunger and malnutrition... ” [New Urban Agenda - clause 123]
FAO has been actively participating in the integration of those 2 pillars in the NUA, and in March 2019 launched the FAO Framework for the Urban Food Agenda.
