Abstrak – Global economic competition is getting tougher line with the times. Every nation competing to accelerate the growth of the country in various fields, one of which economic growth. In the current era of energy is a component that greatly affect the economy of a nation. Not only in Indonesia, other countries to make the energy sector as a parameter status of the economy in general. In addition to this, another important factor is a barometer of a country's ability to compete in a global world is how the utilization and management of natural resources in that country. Due to the demands of global competition, a country needs to accelerate the progress of the macro economy, including in Indonesia itself. Demands to find and exploit new resources into a need for the country to accelerate the rapid economic growth. Gas hydrate exploration aims to find alternative energy in the form of methane gas on a large scale that can be used for the needs of the people of Indonesia. Distribution of NGH (Natural Gas Hydrate) in Indonesia itself has a great prospect, approximately 134.0 TCF that spread in Aceh, North Sumatra, Central Sumatra, South Sumatra, West Java, Central Java, East Java, East Kalimantan, Natuna, South Sulawesi and Papua (LIPI, 2004). There are several obstacles that need to be addressed such as the high cost of capital required for the production and transportation process, but of course the work done will be comparable to the results achieved so automatically replace the capital that has been issued. The existence of the results of research in the southern sea of Java gives hope. Based on the results of Japanese research expedition ship in January and February 2001 found the presence of methane gas resources in the waters of the southern basin region of West Java. Pendekatan Geologi; Meningkatkan Perekonomian Nasional dengan Explorasi Energi Alternatif NGH (Natural Hydrate Gas) di

Wilayah Laut Selatan Jawa.

Abstrak – Persaingan ekonomi secara global semakin ketat seiring dengan perkembangan zaman. Setiap bangsa berlomba-lomba mempercepat pertumbuhan negaranya diberbagai bidang, salah satunya pertumbuhan di bidang ekonomi. Pada zaman sekarang energi merupakan suatu komponen yang sangat mempengaruhi perekonomian suatu bangsa. Bukan hanya di Indonesia, negara lain menjadikan bidang energi sebagai parameter status perekonomiannya secara umum. Selain hal itu, faktor penting lain yang menjadi tolak ukur kemampuan bersaing sebuah negara di dunia global adalah bagaimana pemanfaatan dan pengelolaan sumberdaya alam dinegara tersebut. Akibat tuntutan persaingan global tersebut maka sebuah negara perlu melakukan percepatan terhadap kemajuan ekonominya secara makro, termasuk di Indonesia sendiri. Tuntutan untuk menemukan dan mengeksplorasi sumberdaya alam baru menjadi suatu kebutuhan agar negara ini dapat melakukan percepatan terhadap pertumbuhan ekonomi secara pesat.Explorasi gas hydrate bertujuan untuk mencari energi alternatif berupa gas metana dalam skala besar yang dapat dimanfaatkan bagi kebutuhan masyarakat Indonesia. Persebaran NGH (Natural Gas Hydrate) di Indonesia sendiri memiliki prospek yang cukup besar, sekitar 134,0 TCF dengan penyebaran berturut-turut dari Aceh, Sumatera Utara, Sumatera Tengah, Sumatera Selatan, Jawa Barat, Jawa Tengah, Jawa Timur, Kalimantan Timur, Natuna, Sulawesi Selatan, hingga Papua (LIPI,2004). Ada beberapa kendala yang perlu dihadapi seperti mahalnya modal yang diperlukan untuk proses produksi dan transportasi, namun tentu saja usaha yang dilakukan akan sebanding dengan hasil yang dicapai sehingga otomatis mengganti modal yang telah dikeluarkan.Adanya hasil dari penelitian di laut selatan Jawa memberikan harapan. Berdasarkan hasil expedisi menggunakan kapal riset Jepang pada januari hingga februari 2001 menemukan adanya sumber gas metan di daerah basin perairan selatan Jawa Barat. Rembesan gas metan muncul kepermukaan dasar laut melalui patahan yang ditandai dengan kehadiran jenis kerang yang hanya mengkonsumsi metan. Dengan usaha dan teknologi yang tepat potensi ini dapat dimanfaatkan untuk meningkatkan kesejahteraan dan perekonomian masyarakat banyak. Dari explorasi sumberdaya NGH ini diharapkan Indonesia dapat meningkatkan daya saing secara global serta mempercepat peningkatan pendapatan dan taraf hidup masyarakat secara umum.
