ROLE OF MASS MEDIA IN POVERTY ERADICATION Dr. P. Balaji Prasad* N. Ramakrishna** ABSTARCT India is the one of the fastest growing economies in the world and yet its riches are hardly redistributed across the population. India’s government is well aware that poverty is a giant barrier to overcome if it is to fully develop the nation. A wide range of anti-poverty policies have been introduced since the 1950s, which nonetheless took effect after 20 years of implementation. Government implemented many schemes for the poverty eradication, but still people not well known about the schemes and how they useful them to overcome poverty. Here the communication and mass media playing vital role in informing the public about the government anti- poverty policies and schemes. The rise of mass media as an indispensible accessory of modern society's access to information has been phenomenal. Media is undoubtedly very fast vast and powerful mode on communication. Mass Media perform the role of dynamic waterdogs and erects its fingers towards and backlog in a system. It diagnoses the system and opens the pit full and tries to rectify it. The media, with specific reference to the collective entity of newspapers, radio, television and the International Network play a very important role in national development. National development involves changes or advancement in a nation aimed at improving the political, economic and social lives of the people. The real influence of the media in national development will depend on the media themselves, the societies in which they operate, and the audience they reach. None of these factors are the same everywhere, at all times, or under all conditions. Thus the paper discuss about how the mass media playing a vital role in poverty eradication.
