THE FEELINGS EXPERIENCED BY MOTHERS WITH HOSPITALIZED

CHILDREN IN A NEONATAL ICU

The presence of a newborn with a high-risk medical conditions in a

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit creates an emotional impact and a radical change

in the family routine, especially the mother. This study aimed to identify how it is

eperienced by mothers, the hospitali!ation of their children at the teaching

hospital in the interior of "inas #erais. $articipated in the study eleven mothers

of hospitali!ed babies. The data were analy!ed by content analysis techni%ue.

The results showed that the predominant negative emotional impact among

mothers. The first visit in the sector triggers feelings of fear and aniety.

&eelings that showed mitigated by the close relationship of professionals

working in the sector, by hosting and communication. &actor that points the

importance of adopting a humani!ed care, that prioriti!es dialogue and the

inclusion of mother in the care process and it helps in reducing thepsychological distress caused by the hospitali!ation.
