The Social Venture Partner Model
The SVP model works much the way venture capital does. We bring together like-minded individuals who invest their time, talent and treasure in a multi-year partnership with selected non-profit organizations. Pooled funds support InvesteesDSVP Partners join by making an annual contribution of $5,000. The funds are pooled to provide grants to Investees (grant recipients) and also to support DSVP operations.
We collaborate with our InvesteesWe bring our collective expertise to promising nonprofit organizations that we have collectively chosen to invest in via our Investment Committee, collaborating with them to build capacity and sustainability, and to support the development and delivery of impactful programs that benefit our community.
We strengthen the organization as a wholeBuilding upon the programmatic expertise of the Investee, DSVP helps the organization strengthen its management practices, strategies and systems. With access to skilled volunteers, professional consultants and management training opportunities, Investees can improve the following:
• Information Technology • Marketing, PR and Communications • Human Resources • Strategic Planning • Legal
• Board Development and Governance • Leadership Development • Financial Management • Fund Development

What our Investees Say
CAP “Sadly, there’s a lot of bad philanthropy today in the sense that people have no direction in terms of where to give, but DSVP offers structure, accountability, and education for the partners involved.”
– Margaret Patterson, CAP ED Mi Escuelita“DSVP challenges us to think creatively to see how we can collaborate and cut costs,” she says. “I wish more funders (sic) would approach [philanthropy] this way. We need the check, but more importantly we need the partnerships.” She likened DSVP’s approach to the fish adage: “You know, you can catch a fish and feed a man for a day, but you can teach him to fish and feed him for a lifetime—teach us to do it on our own.”
-Gayle Nave, EDNFTE“I see how the students have been impacted by NFTE. It gives them access to ideas and opportunities that they have never had before. It lets them know that there is a whole other world out there.”
- Susie Morrissey, Lead Partner

What Our Investees Say
Samaritan Inn “I love DSVP…they provide partners who come in on committees, and that’s what makes them incredibly unique.”
- Lynne Sipiora, ED
Shared Housing “DSVP has helped us stay on path with forward thinking. They’ve been the vehicle to creating a workable business plan. It is way different than anything else....DSVP is like a breath of fresh air. When they pick an agency, there are layers of ways they want to help. They remind us why we are here.”
– Maria Machado, ED
Wilkinson Center They brought the brains and bucks to do consultation, brand our programs, retool them, think strategically, and seize opportunities. They’ve encouraged us and befriended us in every way.”
