About Us Horizon School Division #205 operates 41 schools across east central Saskatchewan, with our central office in Humboldt, Sask. Horizon spans a geographic area of approximately 30,970 square kilometers, from Bulyea in the south, Wakaw in the north, Foam Lake in the east, and Viscount in the west. The division is divided into 14 subdivisions for purposes of representation on the Board of Education. The First Nations of Day Star, Fishing Lake, George Gordon, Kawacatoose, Muskowekwan, One Arrow and Yellow Quill can be found within the boundaries of Horizon. The division also serves two Hutterian colonies. The economy within Horizon School Division is very diverse. Agriculture, mining and world class manufacturing can be found across the division. About Us

Horizon School Division #205 operates 41 schools across east central Saskatchewan, with our central office in Humboldt, Sask. Scheduling The days to be worked and the daily hours of work, including starting time, meal and rest breaks and finishing times, shall be determined by the School Principal and communicated to the employee.

Payment of WagesEmployees shall be paid on or before the 25 th day of the month by direct deposit to the employee’s financial institution. When the 25 th falls on a weekend payment will be made on the previous Friday.

BenefitsThe SSBA group benefit plan provides employees with Resilience Services, Life Insurance, Accidental Death & Dismemberment, and Long Term Disability. Eligible employees will be eligible to join the benefit program once their probation period is complete. The premiums for the plan are shared 50/50 with the Employer.www.ssba.ca

Benefits while on Leave The Employer will continue to pay their share of the cost for the benefits plan when the employee is on an approved leave of absence with pay.

The employee will be responsible for the Employer’s share of the cost for the benefits plan when the employee is on an extended approve leave of absence without pay.

EvaluationsAll support staff will be evaluated at the conclusion of their probationary period. Following that evaluation employees will be evaluated on an on-going basis as per Administrative Procedure - ___.

Job Description

EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT

General Descriptions:The Educational Assistant provides support to identified students in the preparation of instructional aids, supervision of students and supporting the implementation of programs involving designated intensive need students. The duties of an Educational Assistant will vary depending on the need of the special needs of the student(s) as assigned by the Principal.

The Educational Assistant, an integral member of the student's educational team, will work under the direct supervision of the Principal and may be directed by the classroom teacher and/or learning resource teacher.

Required Education, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience: Minimum of Grade 12 diploma from a recognized educational institution or a

General Educational Development (GED) is required; Valid Class 5 License is preferred; Educational Assistant course is preferred; Demonstrated knowledge in the operation of computers, word processing

applications and additional software comparable to those used in school division and social media;

Completion of an Early Childhood Development program or similar human services training.

Supervision of Staff:This position does not involve the supervision of staff.

Responsibilities and Duties:The Educational Assistant position shall perform such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned including but not limited to the following:

A. Fostering Effective Relationships1. The educational assistant communicates effectively to ensure strong

relationships with all stakeholders by:a) Ensuring a professional and welcoming environment.b) Communicating effectively with students and staff and keeping Principal

informed.c) Communicating to the Principal if and why he/she is unable to perform

his/her assigned duties.

2. The Educational Assistant’s values and attitudes toward his/her role serve to support the Principal by:a) Demonstrating a positive attitude towards all stakeholders;b) Building positive relationships with all stakeholders;c) Showing initiative (self-directed with minimal supervision);d) Demonstrating the ability to take and follow directions;e) Continue to improve his/her effectiveness, expertise and job related skills

by being willing to engage in lifelong learning with respect to training, in-services and course of study.

B. Supporting the Learning Community1. Supports the school authority’s policies and processes and they align with

provincial legislation, division policies, administrative procedures, and regulations by:a) Organizing educational aids to meet the learning needs of students;b) Under the direct supervision of the principal and cooperation of the teacher,

supervising students in the classroom, play, lunch or rest area and during recreational activities and outdoor trips on a one-on-one or group basis;

c) Assisting in various life skills activities and assisting in assessment progress of identified students;

d) Under the direct supervision of the principal and in collaboration with the teacher and other support professionals, assist designated intensive needs students in the development of gross and fine motor abilities and basic life skills by demonstration, physical assistance and manipulation;

e) Monitoring student behavior and task performance through documentation and communication with teachers.

f) Recognizing the teacher’s responsibility to plan instructional activities for all students and to communicate with parents.

g) Assisting students in achieving their learning goals (individually or in small groups) as identified in the individual program plan.

h) Based on the needs of the individual students, provide designated intensive needs students with assistance in dressing, eating, toileting and transportation.

i) Ability to administer medication in accordance with the administrative procedure if required.

j) Carrying out recommendations of teachers and other professionals as approved in the individual program plan.

k) Communicating to the teacher situational factors which may affect the instructional program of the student(s).

l) Participating in school and classroom routines and procedures as directed. and participating in supervision as required.

m) Assisting with the organization of students, school and community activities requested by the Principal.

n) Maintaining current and up to date with required and related technology.o) Completing specific duties assigned and set out by your Principal. These

duties will vary from one school to another;p) Conducting any other related duties as assigned by the Principal.

C. Supporting School Operations1. Assists the principal in the organization and management of the human, physical and

financial resources of the school.a) Ability to maintain strict confidentiality relative to school division operations; b) Ability to collaborate and work in a team setting;c) Demonstrating an ability to prioritize multiple demands and effectively manage

time; d) Conducting oneself in a manner appropriate for an educational institute that

provides services to children and community;e) Demonstrating punctuality and appropriate dress for the school setting;f) Working within the policies and procedures of the school division.g) Attend meeting as requested.h) Respecting the dignity and rights of students and staff members.i) Demonstrating the ability to take and follow direction.j) Performing other related duties as assigned by the Principal.

OH&S provides for a safe workplace and involves the employees in identifying issues and concerns so that they be rectified.

Any workplace (or school) with more than 10 employees must have a program developed and conduct meetings 4 times per yearOH&S Website

The WCB is a no-fault insurance program that protects works and employers against the result of work injuries. Injured workers are compensation for lost wages if they are injured at work. The school division pays for this insurance. It is the responsibility of the work to report any injuries immediately to their supervisor and fill out a claim form.
