A back-to-basics combination of an eReader and cell phone, the Onyx MIDIA InkPhone prototype can last for more than two weeks on a single charge.

The MIDIA InkPhone does not have all the features of typical smartphones and eReaders, but what it does do, it does well. The InkReader eschews LCD screens in favor of a 4.3-inch, front-lit E Ink display, which uses very little power—lasting more than two weeks off a single charge of its 1,000mAh battery. The device is also equipped with an inexpensive Rockchip CPU, a low amount of RAM and 4GB of onboard storage, with the option to add up to 32GB more with a microSD card.

I n S ã o F r a n c i s c o d e Assisi Hospital, Rotarians, with the support of a p i l o t g l o b a l grant, doubled the incubator

and Intensive Care Unit capacity, providing lifesaving services to critically ill newborn babies. Rotarians also strengthened community health services by developing public television health education shows directed towards young adults and pregnant women. All 22 incubators were in use during my visit and there is always a waiting list. The gratitude expressed by attendant moms was overwhelming, as was the sight of these premature infants clinging to life.
