Panel discussion on Family valuesMidtown regular meeting started with tributes to

Late Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar, the scion

of erstwhile Mysore royal family. The meeting start

with Rotarians and Anns offering their respects.

Rtn.Bhanu shared the link of Midtown with the

celebrity. Rtn. Alagappan, Rtn. M. S. Raghu & Rtn. K.

N. Srinivasan offered floral tributes to Late

Srikantadatta Wodeyar's photo. The evening was slated for an interesting

discussion on “Family values”. Presence of many Anns

added color to the audience. The elite panelists were

Ann. Anupama Ravindranath, Ms. Sindhu Suresh &

Mr. S. Prasad, Rtn. Bhanu first elaborated on the

relevance of the topic and then introduced the

panelists. After a long time Ann. Anupama's official

CV was out and most of us were unaware about the

achievements of the humble personality, there is a

huge treasure trove of experience behind the smiles.

Ms. Sindhu Suresh though a professional herself,

represented as a mother in the panel. Mr. S. Prasad an

advocate and a guest faculty brought in his

professional capabilities to the panel. The interesting

mix of panelists were then quizzed with some thought

provok ing quest ions by moderator Rtn .

Bhanuchandran. Mr. Prasad spoke elaborately on the questions

shot at him, few of the questions were on “Media

trial”, “Honor killing and law”, “A new law on parents

role in marriages”, “How to stop people from getting

into honor”. Ms. Sindhu Suresh speaking as a mother

of a girl shared her opinions, few of the questions shot

at her were “Media influence on kids”, “How

homemakers can face cross marriages”. Ann.

Anupama shared her frank thoughts on the topics

that were floated, select questions for here were on

“Family preparedness on changing situations”,

“Psychological approach”. Ann. Anupama opined that

while values are changing with changing situations, it

should not be misunderstood as deterioration. She

quoted few practical situations to justify her

thoughts. The Q&A session was exciting as many

Rotarians shot flurry of questions to the panelists.

Rtn. Dr. Prahlad proposed vote of thanks.December is family month and Midtown

organized this thought provoking panel discussion to

instigate a introspection on the values that we adopt

in our personal lives. (Photo of the meeting will be

published in next bulletin)

President Rtn. Ron D Burton on the death of Nelson Mandela

Rotary members worldwide are deeply

saddened to learn of the death of Nelson

Mandela, a man who overcame unimaginable

hardships to emerge as one of the greatest

leaders of our time -- and one of our greatest

humanitarians.Mr. Mandela shared Rotary's commitment

to humanitarian service and world peace, and

twice as President of South Africa accepted

Rotary recognition for his commitment to

helping those in need, especially the children

of southern Africa. In 1995, President Mandela

received the Rotary International Award of

Honor. Two years later, he accepted Rotary's

highest award, the Rotary Award for World

Understanding. In true fashion, he donated the

$100,000 grant accompanying the award to

the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund.Rotary is especially grateful for his strong

support of the global effort to eradicate the

crippling disease polio, our organizaton's

highest priority. Mr. Mandela himself helped

administer oral polio vaccine to the children of

South Africa, which has been declared polio-

free. Our deepest condolences go to Mr.

Mandela's family, to his millions of admirers

worldwide, and especially to the People of

South Africa, including the country's Rotary

members, who knew him as a friend and

staunch supporter of humanitarian service.

Practical InnovationAccording to Cabela's, "ColorPhase is the

world's first camouflage clothing to be printed with rapid-change, temperature-activated dye." This means that when it's warmer outside, in the spring and summer, the fabric is primarily green. As the temperature drops below about 65ºF (18ºC), however, that green starts changing to brown – just like the vegetation does in the fall, although 65º seems a little warm for fall.

And yes, things like body heat, moisture, sunlight and cool winds can indeed also cause it to change color.

The 125th Tournament of Roses Parade, with the theme “Dreams Come True” is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, and will be hosted on KTLA 5 by Bob Eubanks and Stephanie Edwards in Pasadena,California.

This festive float begins with a candy cane crossing which leads onto a bridge of candy cane railroad tracks. Atop the tracks a sweet train that is built of anything a sweet tooth could desire. Candy canes, lollipops, cupcakes, ice cream cones, jelly beans, a gingerbread man all make up the float that children would absolutely love to take a bite out of.
