About the Product

The OCMR with redundant power supply capability is the second generation Optical Communications

Mainframe Chassis which forms the backbone of the Light Link Series 3 product range.

The OCMR chassis is fully backward compatible with PBN’s complete range of optical, RF, and data

modules to suit CATV, Ethernet, FTTC, FTTH, HFC and telecommunication applications.

The new design employs the same form factor as its predecessor, the OCMC, still 5 RU high, 19” rack

mountable, but now with 10 slots for high density applications and full power redundancy.

Comprehensive control and monitoring of the OCM is included in the chassis itself, with a 4 line LCD and

keypad to navigate through any of the modules’ various monitoring and control features.

As a crucial element in any small or large city optical network, the OCMR is designed with fully modular

and hot-swappable active parts which allow for continual system operation, providing uninterrupted

services to the end subscriber.

The OCMR can be optioned with an integrated SNMP agent and Ethernet port. This makes it possible to

monitor and control an OCMR chassis through an IP network with PBN’s NMS3-NetCraft software or an

SNMP manager.

Features

• 5 RU high, 19" wide, 10 slot chassis for PBN designed plug in modules.

• Can be equipped with dual, hot-swappable power supplies for redundant power applications.

• Large LCD panel for easy setup of modules and system monitoring.

• IEC297 compatible 19" rack.

• Space below modules for optical fibre patch cords and RF cable access.

• Mountable at ½ RU intervals allowing maximum use of rack space in communications cabinets.

• Horizontal, fan forced airflow permits the mounting of multiple OCMR without the need for rack space clearance between chassis.

• Local monitoring of system and modules via USB port.

• Remote monitoring via optional integrated SNMP agent and web server (HTTP) through 10Base-T Ethernet port for system wide, NMS3 network management.

• Hot-swappable front panel display and micro-controller assembly.

Remote monitoring and control features with the SNMP option

During normal operation the OCM user interface runs in status monitoring mode where it continuously

checks the entire OCMR chassis for urgent alarm conditions. If any of the plug-in modules report an urgent

failure, the LCD display will flash and the alarm condition is made available via the software for remote

monitoring computers. The OCMR also monitors various other module parameters for non-urgent alarm

conditions.

The OCMR employs an optional NMS3 network element manager which acts as a Simple Network

Management Protocol (SNMP) agent and a web server for monitoring via a web browser. The SNMP

agent and web server are available through a rear mounted, RJ45 (10Base-T) Ethernet port.

The SNMP option is supplied with a PBN Management Information Base (MIB) as well as PBN’s NMS3-

NetCraft software for Windows XP workstations. The PBN MIB is complementary to the Society of Cable

Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) published HMS standard MIB's. The OCMR is fully compatible

with PBN NMS3-Enterprise II and NMS3-EPSM, with BarcoNet ROSA, with HP Open View, with CA

Unicenter, with Castle Rock, with NuDesign and with many other standards based SNMP monitoring

packages.

Please refer to our datasheets for NMS3-NetCraft, Enterprise II and NMS3-EPSM for more details on the

comprehensive network management features, the operational supports systems, the provisioning systems

and the billing systems.
