My name is Brenda, and this entire power point project is just about me! From things regarding my background, my personal goals, future plans, and hobbies, this power point will give it all, as you can see in the links above. (Most of it, at least.) Each slide I’ve written on entails some things that I very much hold dear to me. They will each include required links of a chosen subject in the pictures. I hope you enjoy and thank you for reading this whole thing over!

My Background

Though I have been raised here in Redlands, California for my entire seventeen years of life, I was actually born in Loma Linda! The children’s hospital, to be exact. Along with my sister and I, my mom and dad were raised here in Redlands for a majority of their lives as well. Even my grandmother was born and raised in Redlands. My grandfather, however, was born and raised all the way out on the east coast in Martinsville, Virginia. As for the rest of my family, they all come from surrounding towns close by like Riverside or Yucaipa.

As for my school life, I have been in the Redlands Unified School District from kindergarten all the way to twelfth grade. I went to McKinley Elementary School from kindergarten to fifth grade, Cope Middle School from sixth to eighth, and I currently attend Redlands High School, managing to stay all four years of high school. Whether or not I keep the trend going is still up in the air, but I do hope to stay here just a little longer.

I have two best friends here at RHS: Haylee and Tiffany, both of them are seniors. I’ve known them both for 6 years now and it feels like it’s been way longer. And since we’re talking about friends here, I absolutely cannot forget the family dogs, all three of the Dachshunds and one Chihuahua. (Ginger, Mocha, Coco, and Pepper!)

I have a few mundane personal goals that I’m sure a majority of people share with me. In the near future, I hope to get my license. Having a permit is really nothing special --- in fact, it’s actually a pain! I want to be able to drive people around and not worry about where that huge bulk of paper is. Finally being able to carry around my own license would be nothing short of exciting!

Another one of my goals is to get into acting more. It seems like a really good way to break me out of my shy shell and put myself out there. Plus, you don’t see many actresses-slash-writers out there, do you? I love the idea of giving voice acting a shot, but people say you need to get into legitimate acting first, so that’s where my goal stems from!

Traveling to Honolulu, Hawaii and San Francisco, California are two big goals mushed into one. I’ve only been to Hawaii once and that was for a wedding --- I really want to go back and see more of it! San Francisco seems so pretty and though I don’t personally know what it’s like to live there, I’d love to take a small visit there for a few days, that’s all!

Future Plans

College is definitely a big plan for the future --- the near future, I should say. I have gone back and forth between a number of colleges I wanted to attend , but the one that really stuck with me is the University of Oregon, home of the Ducks. Not only because I went up to Oregon to tour the campus with one of my friends, but a number of other factors really played into it! I would love to attend that school, and I’ve been doing whatever I can to get me there.

Located in Eugene, Oregon, the U of O is a public flagship research university that was established on October 12. 1873. All sorts of research made my college students is located here in this school from things like art to things like science and medicine.

When I get to college, after my general education is out of the way, I plan on working towards earning a major in English and a minor in Creative Writing. They sound awfully boring things to want to earn to most people, but I really do enjoy English and writing! It was time that I finally utilized my interest in a subject and productively work towards my future with it.

There’s so many things I can do with English: book writing, become a teacher, screenplay writing, script writing, etc., all things I would really like to delve into eventually!

Visiting Amusement Parks

The three hobbies / interests that are being introduced here are nothing all too exciting. They are all definitely hobbies that suit me, and they are hobbies that will later help me in my career in the future. Each one is pretty important to me and hold a lot more significant meaning to me than just being something as simple as an interest or hobby. I like to think that reading and writing basically go hand-in-hand, so those really resonate well with me. Visiting amusement parks is definitely something on the more sentimental and memorable side of things and I really do love it.

ReadingI do a bunch of reading in my free time. No matter the genre, no matter the author, I am always reading something. I do have to say though, my favorite genre is probably mystery or horror. I have been utilizing reading has a hobby for as long as I could remember, I always think back and see that loving to read goes as far back as I can reach. People may think it’s boring, but everyone is entitled to their opinion! I actually like being able to buy my books and place them in my bookshelf and watch the collection grow overtime.

I have a huge number of favorite authors and it’s because of the different types of genres each has to offer to me. Finding who my favorite select few was a very difficult challenge since I love my variety, but my favorite author is James Dashner. He is the author of my favorite book series The Maze Runner. It’s my favorite series for a variety of reason, but the creativity he put into the series as a whole is nothing short of admirable.

Another one of my favorite authors is J.K. Rowling, the creator of the famous Harry Potter book series. I love that book (and movie) series nearly as much as I do The Maze Runner, but I won’t say that for certain just yet! She is also a very amazing author that I favor over most and I read her work as frequent as I possibly can!

WritingOne of my favorite things to do is write. Asking me what I write is such a difficult question to answer because I write all kinds of things! I’ve written short stories, poetry, and so on. It really goes hand in hand with my hobby of reading because the reading helps me further my skill in writing. I have been writing for a couple of years now and I really do hope to do more in the future, maybe even make a career out of it.

I spend most of my free time writing, when I’m not reading, truth be told. It really helps in English class when I have to write essays and the like. Some may see it being very tedious and boring, but everything they see on a daily basis comes from some sort of writing. Television shows, social media, movies, and so on. When I finally enter the work force, I want to write for something that people all over will be able to see!

When I’m not writing, I’m reading about writing. Usually, it’s just about writers in general. One of my favorite writers I love reading about is Sylvia Plath. She was an American, highly regarded, and much studied poet born in Boston in the thirties. Though she was trouble, and eventually ended her own life in the sixties, Sylvia Plath was a very talented writer with works I could never get tired of reading.

Visiting Amusement Parks

Growing up, I was super, duper fortunate enough to be able to visit amusement parks often. My dad takes me, along with my younger sister, to various amusement parks as often as he can, despite how tiring it might be. Visiting these parks is very special to me, as it is my family’s way of spending time with each other. We have had this small family tradition since I was about eight and I’m glad we have it, I would be so bored without it.

It may seem repetitive and boring to most, but to me, I absolutely love doing what I do. We really only visit two of the three I have chosen here, but Universal Studios, the film studio and theme park in Los Angeles, and Disneyland, the only theme park designed and built under the direct supervision of Walt Disney, are two parks that we visit most frequently. Of course, this isn’t during the school year, but I can always look forward to it during one of my breaks.

I’ve only been to Six Flags Magic Mountain one time, and it was with my family. We made a family trip out of it, and while I was absolutely dreading all of those rollercoasters, I had a lot of fun. Six Flags is world's largest amusement park corporation, and they don’t let you forget it.
