About me -

o Earned a tag "Microsoft Certified Professional" from Microsoft for SharePoint technologies in 2011 & re-newed in 2014,

o Passed a few Microsoft certifications to start with like 70-331, 70-488, 70-668, 70-667, 70- 631 & 70-432,

o Acquired a tag 'Guru' in SharePoint from Experts-Exchange grossing over 2 lacks points as a result of solving the real life technical problems in SharePoint technologies,

o 6 year qualified experience in trying to make business solutions using SharePoint 2013, 2010, 2007, SQL & third party products revolving round them,

o Looking for that feeling you get when the solution you created improves business process.

How I see SharePoint:

o SharePoint in layman's view,

is a platform. A business can use it to solutionize most of the business needs from Information Technology stack.

o SharePoint in business sense,

Means a one stop solution (or at least an intent to start with!).

It could be looked as if an organization-wide consolidated one page to business owners, management & ground level employees.

People like me comes into picture in "How-to" part. I felt this as immensely interesting since

this thing is a highly flexible & complexity comes free of cost with flexibility on our earth.

Interdependencies & the inside look of SharePoint is a complex world to understand.

Like any other successful thing, it does needs long term perspective & vision at core.

Business perception

o In good implementations,

Good easy to use solution for the primary business need why SharePoint has come into the premises.

Difficult to leverage most of its (other) on-paper capabilities thereby ending up with a solution to a single business need, often collaboration.

o In not so good implementations,

We feel SharePoint as very complex, too many limitations, very costly tool.

This comes as an aftermath of some or all of:

Poor technical design,

Inconsistent governance & retention processes,

Irregular maintenance cycles & lack of preventive maintenance,

Poor development practices,

Improperly configured monitoring tools and

Inconsistent newer trainings to ground level people.

o Summarizing business perception,

SharePoint is not a one-time configuration kind of product,

It needs to get evolved all the time to effectively address newer & broader business needs, keeping the existing solutions intact.

SharePoint as a platform, is highly stable.
