About Islander `Ukulele:

To answer the growing demand for affordable instruments with the distinctive Kanile`a sound, Islander `Ukulele was created in 2007. These instruments, built overseas, are cut from various woods like mahogany, acacia, maple, rosewood, spruce and more. More notably, every Islander `ukulele is built with key features found on a Kanile`a `ukulele:

• 1-1/2” nut width for better playability and to deter string roll off• Bridge pin system for easier string changes and to deter the bridge from lifting• Geared metal tuners with an 18:1 turning ratio• Aquila Corde Super Nylgut strings for comfortable playing at any level of ability• Every piece is inspected prior to shipping• Smoother transitioning from the affordable Islander to the high end Kanile`a

In January 2016, the Islander mini guitar was introduced with great success. This instrument features the Kanile`a scoop bevel cutaway and the bevel armrest. Tuning is E-A-D-G-B-E and wood choices are mahogany/spruce, acacia/spruce and rosewood/spruce. In October 2016, an Islander Distribution Center (IDC-CA) opened in Santa Ana, California. This was done to address the growing needs of dealers across the American continent for more Islander instruments. The IDC-HI is still in operation and supports dealers in Hawai`i and the retail store. Every Islander comes with a one-year warranty which covers manufacturing defects. About the creators of Kanile`a `Ukulele:

Joe and Kristen Souza are the dynamic husband-wife team who founded Kanile`a `Ukulele in July of 1998. Joe started his apprenticeship under master luthier Peter Burmudez in 1990 and still continues to collaborate with “uncle Pete” to integrate traditional Hawaiian building techniques with today’s 21st century technologies. This mash up of old and new has proven effective in creating a full-bodied, rich sound that is distinctive of these playable masterpieces. All Kanile`a instruments are handcrafted in the Souzas’ hometown of Kāne`ohe, Hawai`i. Kristen oversees administrative operations, retail sales and dealer support. Together with a team of skilled artisans, retail salespeople and admin staff members, Joe and Kristen hope to share the ‘ukulele with the world.

One of our missions at Kanile‘a ‘Ukulele is for everyone, no matter what
