The early intervention program is funded through a combination of federal and state money. It is mandated as a part of the federalSpecial Education law ensuring free, appropriate, public education for all students, regardless of their ability.
The program is divided into two parts, one which provides servicesfor children Birth to 3 years old, and the other for children 3 andOlder (up to the time of school enrollment). In South Dakota, services in both programs are provided by the same teachers andtherapists.
