Solid hardware design techniques such as signal integrity and thermal simulation are used in the early stages, while various chamber and lab tests are applied depending on the individual needs of the application. Considering our products are mostly operating under harsh environments, robust enclosures must be validated with shock and vibration tests, and the typical Mean-Time-Before-Failure (MTBF) is 50,000 to 65,000 hours, or six to seven years.

SolutionAgilent Technologies has designed and implemented an automated test system, Agilent GS-8000, to provide non-stop operation on the manufacturing site for quality testing 2G and 3G phones. Each Agilent GS8000 can test two handsets simultaneously using multi-threaded computing. Introduction2.5G provides some of the benefits of 3G (e.g. it’s packet-switched) and can use some of the existing 2G infrastructure in GSM and CDMA networks. The commonly known 2.5G technique is GPRS (General Packet Radio Services), which is a mobile data service available to users of GSM mobile phones. It provides moderate data transfer rates, by using unused TDMA channels in the GSM network. 2.5G extends 2G systems, and adds features such as packet-switched connections and enhanced data rates. 2.5G networks include EDGE and GPRS. These networks support WAP, MMS, SMS and mobile games.

Solution

SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) is the standard technology for synchronous data transmissions on optical media. This technology provides faster and less expensive network interconnection than traditional PDH (Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy) equipment. All such systems require operations management: the network monitoring system supplies an intermediary device that provides comprehensive monitoring of SDH overhead, SDH protocol transfer and information gathering between the Ethernet IP network and the 2.5G POS (Pack Over SDH) network.

IntroductionVideo surveillance has emerged as a vital technology in the war against terror since helping identify culprits behind the London bombing. Since September 11th, countries have started to increase national security by installing higher quality surveillance equipment, and Taiwan is no exception. Recently, a government security agency encountered some problems with the existing surveillance system in their buildings. It was difficult to identify suspects from poor playback picture quality, and shortage of storage space made it difficult to archive the necessary evidence. While front-end (CCTV) to back-end (server and control center) video surveillance is evolving from analog to digital systems, a total solution is urgently required.

SolutionThe government security agency needed a complete surveillance system to cover five main buildings. They chose the Advantech DVS-610, which has leading-edge H.264 picture quality, and supports up to D1 playback and recording resolution. Their storage problem was solved by adding the DNS-3200 to archive large amounts of footage which is automatically backed up. Moreover, Advantech installed the Intelligent Video Surveillance software to centralize the camera, DVS-610, and DNS-3200 server management. This complete package fulfilled the customer’s needs and requirements—Advantech took care of everything from the front-end to the back-end, even building them a central management system.

IntroductionSince the London bombing, surveillance on public transportation is becoming more and more important. Public transportation surveillance not only helps to prevent terrorism, but is also a very useful tool to record evidence from accidents or arguments, and to monitor the driver’s behavior.

Video surveillance on moving vehicles has encountered various problems. Due to the vibration, limited space, and dust on vehicles, traditional DVR cannot provide the right solutions. Also, the ability to integrate and expand various functions within an open video system is important. The limited functions of traditional DVRs cannot meet these challenges in such an application. Furthermore, the integration between in-vehicle and back-end IT systems is also a must for increasing operational efficiency. The general IPC encounters problems of size and lack of resistance to power spikes, vibration, and dust. Also, we need an X86 based system that can be integrated with back-end IT systems and other software applications.

SolutionThe DVS-300 embedded/mobile digital video system was chosen as the perfect solution for the video computing center on buses and trains. With four Conexant 878A chips to support 16 camera inputs and a special design for mobile environments, the complete system was easily implemented. Besides, the X86 platform made it an easy job to implement other applications such as e-maps, GPS tracking systems, or digital tachographs. The DVS-300 is compact, with a maximum mounting height of only 69 mm. It can resist shock of up to 20G, and vibration of up to 1G.
