Coming Events beyond Abington Quarter
Around the Quarter:
Anne Hill (Gwynedd) sent this to describe Meeting for Worship for Healing: which will be at Gwynedd
(1st day school room) on 2/13/2017.
In the Meeting for Worship for Healing we make ourselves available to the Spirit’s healing power, to be used on our own behalf and for those whom we wish to hold in the Light or pray for. As in our regular Meetings for Worship, there may be silence and vocal ministry. Our focus is not to persuade God, nor in any way to deny or supplant the work of those in the healing professions. For many of us, asking for the Spirit’s healing is asking for wholeness in mind and spirit even though we have been wounded at the deep-est levels. For others, listening to our inmost being where the Inward Teacher dwells enables us to go out and touch others in love and acceptance.
Please join us for a Meeting for Worship for Healing on Monday, February 13th from 7 to 8 PM in Gwynedd Meeting’s First-Day School Room.

2/2 – 4/30/2017 Guardians of the Meadow Featuring the work of Adrienne Jenkins a series of paintings created from 2014 to 2016 that explore connections between human, animal, and natural worlds prompt-ing consideration of our role as stewards for the earth. 2/12/2017 Reception for the artist.

2/6/2017 From Rage to Redemption: The Power of Forgiveness 7:30pm-9:00 pm in the Barn. An illus-
trated presentation by Ulysses “Butch” Slaughter Free and open to the public (registration requested). He re-
lates how he was able to offer forgiveness to his aging father after harboring righteous rage and resent-
ment for abusive parenting and ultimately killing his mother. The length and depth of his journey illumina-
tes for all of us the corrosive effects of hanging on to hurt and anger; the universal human need to seek,
offer, and accept forgiveness; and the healing miracle of grace in reconciliation.
2/18/2017 Painting the Poetry of Shadows Jesse White 9:30am - 4:00pm Registration deadline: 2/11/
2017. How do you face your shadows? Do you know how to shine Love and Light when things feel dark?
Painting and writing poetry can heal and nourish spiritual practices to reveal our shadows so they no longer
haunt us. 2/24-26/2017. Say the Wrong Thing: Strategies of the H.E.A.R.T. for Racial Justice and Authentic
Community A weekend workshop with Amanda Kemp. Pendle Hill wants to support meetings and faith
communities in engaging in the work of racial justice and healing. We believe that conversations within a
faith community are more likely to occur and to be productive if more than one person from the faith com-
munity participates. If a meeting or other faith community sends at least two participants, and provides
financial support to them, Pendle Hill will match the financial support provided to the group up to the cost
of one full registration for a shared room, i.e., $405. Saturdays, 1:30 - 5:30pm; 2/25, 3/11, 4/8, 4/22/2017. Open Studio Session: Jesse White $5 an hour,
includes supplies. 3/25/2017 Discover the Joy of Creative Alignment. Michelle Rothwell 9:30am - 4:00pm. $109, includes
lunch. Registration deadline: 3/18/2017. Discover your authentic creative identity, mapping your deepest
potential to a higher creative purpose. This approach supports many creative forms including: visual arts,
creative writing, and the performing arts.
3/26 – 4/2/2017 Present in Every Moment: Waking Up to Love and Compassion in Our Lives A seven-day
Mindfulness Meditation retreat with Mary Grace Orr, Anne Briggs, and Larissa Kitenko. Meditation is a sim-
ple technique offered by the Buddha for awakening the mind and heart.
4/1/2017 Spring Studio Cleaning and Care Day: Jesse White 10:00am - 4:00pm
4/7-9/2017 Practicing Forgiveness as a Spiritual Discipline. Sue Regen. Choosing to practice forgiveness
can move us closer to Spirit and inner peace and renew our relationship with self and others. Our focus will
be on using tools and techniques for doing forgiveness work, not on therapy.
4/15/2017 Opening to Serenity. Asake Denise Jones, M.A., M.Ed. 9:30am - 4:00pm. Registration dead-
line: 4/8/2017.

Whatever liberation our churches bring to
others must not come from our exertion of
alternate (specifically oppressive) powers,
but from the tabernacling of God in our
particular community, guiding us to distinct
ways to love our neighbors.
