About

“The state of Washington’s Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training (I-BEST) program is nationally recognized as an evidence-based instructional model that supports career pathways. In an I-BEST program, two instructors are paired in the classroom- one to teach professional/technical or academic content; the other to teach basic skills in reading, math, writing or English language- so students can move through school and into jobs faster.”

Purpose:

Assist Amarillo College with student completion of academic coursework by providing adult basic education (ABE) supports to students through a mixture of four different levels of integrated instruction models. While also providing advising and scholarship opportunities to fund student certifications, tuition, books, tools, and other resources needed to succeed during their academic or CE program ($300-$600).

This model assists the college with increased enrollments, retention and completion efforts that focus on getting students in a middle-skilled job with the potential to earn a sustaining -wage.

Guidance:

Career Ready You (CRU) provides I-BEST services at Amarillo College in three Career Clusters-- Healthcare, Industry, and Business & Technology.

TWC guidance for AEL programs serving populations in an institution of higher education (IHE) can be located in the AEL Letter 06-15 change 1. Career Ready You (CRU) can help academic students that do not have an associate or higher degree and verify skills are deficient based on the TSI in any of the three domains (Reading, Writing, or Math). Essentially stating the TSI cut score falls below college -ready. Additionally, students are required to complete all TWC participants eligibility requirements.

Learning Management System (LMS)

Presenter
Presentation Notes
The importance of Learning Management Systems: Data benefits from standardized attendance and is able to easily upload attendance to TEAMS Teachers benefit from having access to the same systems as academic and CE professors Allows Career Navigators to monitor attendance and class grades. Allows easy student communication with career navigators and teachers. CRU uses the Learning Management system to track attendance. Instructors are reaching out to students each day that they miss up to their 3rd absence after this a Career Navigator is notified and will reach out to the students to see if there may be a barrier that isn't allowing them to come to class.

Presentation Notes
CRU talked about this pre covid and was accessing this for weekly tasks. Post Covid we have used this more. Career Navigators use this to : Track students Tracking instructor tasks that have been asked in weekly instructor/ career navigator meeting. ASANA has also helped us as a team. We were able to communicate tasks that needed to be completed while not together during COVID.
