And a departure for my sorrow and a release for my anxietywa jalaa’ huzni wa dhihaaba hammi Ya Allah make the Quran the departure of my sorrow, and the release of my

anxiety. Make the Quran where I find comfort.

Make the Quraan the life of my heart and the light of my chestAn taj’al al-Qur’aana rabee’a qalbi wa noora sadri

(Now after lowering yourself, praising Allah, and calling on Him with His beautiful names- what do we ask for? Remember this dua is for anykind of sadness or grief. So you would expect these to be mentioned. After all this what do we ask for?) Ya Allah make the Quran spring of my heart. The light of my chest. A source of life for me and a source of guidance through every darkness.

Or You have preserved in the knowledge of the Unseen with YouAwista’tharta bihi fi ‘ilm il-ghaybi ‘indak.

And I ask You with every name that is ONLY know to You. Even by the names You have kept only to yourself. (Allah has many more names than just the 99 we know about). O Allah I am asknig You with every single name of yours.

Or revealed in Your book, or You have taught to any of Your creationAw anzaltahu fi kitaabik. Aw ‘allamtahu ahadan min khalqik.

And I ask You with every name You have ever revealed in any of Your books. and I ask you by every name You have ever taught to any of Your creation- to any of the prophets and the righteous throughout history

I ask You by every name belonging to You which You have named Yourself with

As’aluka bi kullismin huwa lak. Sammayta bihi nafsak(Now that you have praised NOW it is time to ask Allah.) Ya Allah I ask you with EVERY name of yours. (Allah told us in the Quran to ask with His beautiful names). I ask you with every name You have named Yourself with.

My forlock is in your hands. Your command over me is forever executed and your decree over me is just

Naasyati bi yadik. Maadin fiyya hukmuk. ‘Adlun fiyya qadaa’uk.Forlock (head) is your hands. I CANNOT act freely, you are in control. I am not in charge of myself. You are my owner and master. What ever you decide, it IS going to happen. You oversee ALL my affairs. No one can stop what you have decreed. Not only will it happen- it is ALL JUST. What ever you have decreed it is full of justice (even if I dont understand it).

I am your slave and you are my Rab. Not only am I your slave but my father and grandfather and great grandfather all the way to Adam were all your slaves. My mother and grandmother and greatgrandmother all the way to Hawa were all your slaves. (Admitting our slavery to Allah is OUR honor.) Ya Allah, I am Your slave, son of Your slave, son of Your female slave

Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood narrates that The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There is no-one who is afflicted by distress and grief, and says (the dua below) but Allaah will take away his distress and grief, and replace it with joy.” He was asked: “O Messenger of Allaah, should we learn

this?” He said: “Of course; everyone who hears it should learn it.” Musnad Ahmad
