Congratulations to Nancy and Jose Reyes, who were recently awarded the Foster Parents of the Year award by nationally recognized PrepNOW!‘. “Nancy and Jose Reyes are indeed a power couple! Over the years, the Reyes’s have raised many youths in care, mainly teen males, in their bilingual home. Seeing their passion and infectious love for the children in their care is inspiring. This couple is dedicated to the success of every youth in care that comes into their home by supporting every one of their young adult’s aspirations, dreams and educational desires. Their genuine interest in providing support for their youths’ school assignments and personal lives is obvious during their nightly dinner table conversations.” Abbott House is so lucky to have such inspiring, hard-working, passionate and loving foster parents represent us. 8 Congratulations! Abbott House Foster Parents Win Foster Parent Excellence Award

Morgan Stanley prides itself on fostering a culture of social responsibility, encouraging its employees to make a positive impact on the communities in which they live and work. Many of these incredible individuals have opened their hearts to Abbott House and stepped forward as Volunteers at a time when we need it most.

Whether helping children craft beautiful cards of gratitude for the men and women

in the military, organizing a fun afternoon of kickball, coordinating a pizza party or planting a vegetable garden with adults with developmental disabilities, Team Morgan Stanley has become part of the fabric of Abbott House, sharing their time and talents in a variety of roles.

Most recently, they raised more than $1,700 in donations during a two-week fundraiser in support of the Abbott House Back-to-School Drive.

A child who begins school with the right notebooks, crayons, pencils, folders and other essential supplies is organized. He or she is free to focus more on learning and less on worrying about how to get their homework done and keep up with their peers.

Thanks to partnerships with community leaders like Morgan Stanley and other

generous donors who believe deeply in the investment of education, Abbott House continues to be successful in helping children succeed in the classroom – and in life.

The Fabulous Women In White Plains! The Woman’s Club of White Plains Raised Funds for Abbott House

Abbott House continues to receive Facility of the Month recognition from the Administration for Children and Family Services (ACS) and Division of Youth and Family Justice (DYFJ) for it’s Non-Secure Detention (NSD) Programs in Queens, NY. At these residences, Abbott House provides temporary care and custody of youth who are accused of committing delinquent or criminal acts and are detained by police arrest or court order.

While youth await their court dates and disposition of their cases, Abbott House offers a highly structured setting while also providing for the safety and well-

being of youth, staff and the community.

The goal of our NSD Programs is to provide these youth with new skills and opportunities so that their first contact with the justice system will be their last.  High quality, varied programming is tailored to the diverse needs of the residents. 100% of youth who have participated in our two NSD Programs have been allowed to return home to their families.

Thanks to the William Helm Foundation for providing computer stations and software so we can help these youth build skill sets for a promising future. So many of us were heartbroken, outraged

and troubled to learn about the children separated from their parents at the border. Their stories moved many compassionate individuals like YOU to action. You made the children staying at Abbott House feel welcomed and supported. You let them know that every child deserves to be safe and have a future.

You told them that every child, no matter where they come from, is to be cherished.

Often with tears in your eyes, you showed up day after day, all summer long, helping us support children and families with donations, recreational activities and in-kind donated items. You even offered to volunteer your time to help us organize this magnificent response.

And you didn’t stop there!

You learned more about other children entrusted to our care; children who are removed from their families every day right here in our communities. Sadly, this is often a pattern that repeats for generations as families in our own neighborhoods tread water to make it through the day.

You also learned more about the adults with developmental disabilities we care for, many of whom no longer have any family to support them. You saw these individuals step forward to help immigrant children by baking and selling cupcakes at Celebrate Irvington, a local event celebrating culture and diversity. These adults, regardless of their challenges, strive to have meaningful lives and feel like they are contributing to their communities. Many of you stopped by our table and left with a smile and a cupcake, but chances are you also left with a deeper understanding of what goes on at Abbott House.

We watched lightbulbs go off as people said, “I never realized the full story of what Abbott House does.”

The truth is we don’t — and we can’t — do it alone. By working together, we make a difference in strengthening our community for everyone. As the recent media attention continues to drop off, it is more important than ever for donors like you to continue providing support to meet the needs of all those entrusted to our care. Please donate today. You can make a difference!

YOU ARE A GAME CHANGER! Reuniting Families All Summer Long…
