G850MEGATROL Service and Commissioning

Course goalMEGATROL® combines the variable speed drive MEGADRIVE LCI and UNITROL® 6800 excitation system of a gasturbine power generating group. The course goal is to teach students to start-up, adjust, operate, commission, maintain and trouble-shoot the MEGATROL® system. This course is dedicated to those people who have already completed the UNITROL® 6800 (J692) and MEGADRIVE (G830) courses.

Learning objectivesUpon completion of this course, the students: – Know the design of MEGATROL as a combination of -UNI-

TROL® 6800 and MEGADRIVE– Are able to identify the hardware component of the -MEGA-

TROL system– Can explain the so called “Cross Start” control system– Are able to operate the MEGATROL using the touch screen

control terminal:– Are able to localize and replace defective components– Are familiar with the test and commissioning procedure of

MEGATROL

ParticipantsApplication, Test, Service and Commissioning Engineers

PrerequisitesCompletion of J689, J692, G830 and G839 courses

Topics– The combination of UNITROL® 6800 and MEGADRIVE to

MEGATROL– Hardware arrangement of MEGATROL– Principle of operation of the software – Logic control of MEGATROL including the so called “Cross

Start” control system– How to use the touch screen control terminal

− How to setup up a particular configuration− How to change parameters, how to record signals using the data logger and trending features− Software downloads etc.

– Commissioning aspects of MEGATROL – Extended hands-on training using training equipment

MethodsLectures for introductionPractical exercise using the MEGATROL training equipment

Power Electronics and Medium Voltage Drives – Machines

J450AC 800PEC Matlab/Simulink

Course goalThe “AC 800PEC” Control Platform is ABB’s high performance process control system and belongs to the ControlIT product line. The AC 800PEC is the optimum solution for combining:– the high-speed control requirements of power electronics

applications – low-speed process control tasks usually carried out by sep-

arate PLC units. The course goal is to teach the student how to program AC 800PEC by means of the Matlab/Simulink tool.

Learning objectivesThe course shows how to build system simulations and to use the control part of the simulation directly as real-time code.

ParticipantsApplication, Test, Service and Commissioning Engineers

PrerequisitesBasic knowledge of electronics Personal computer knowledgeBasic Matlab / Simulink knowledge

Topics– Systematic procedure for building up a system simulation,

later use of the control part for real-time code– Show parallels between real-time code and simulation– Guidelines (signal- and variable names, program structures)– Interfaces of the control application:

To the FPGAPSE-Interface

– Task Handling / Timing / Dead-times / Delays– State Machine– Program download, use of installer– External mode

MethodsLectures, Presentations, DemonstrationsExercises using table model

J410AC 800PEC Control Builder

Course goalThe “AC 800PEC” Control Platform is ABB’s high performance process control system and belongs to the ControlIT product line. The AC 800PEC is the optimum solution for combining:– the high-speed control requirements of power electronic

applications– low-speed process control tasks usually carried out by sep-

arate PLC unitsThe AC 800PEC controller is configured and programmed using Control Builder M, ABB’s well-established programming tool complying with IEC 61131-3, and MATLAB®/Simulink® with Real-Time Workshop®.The goal of this course is to learn the engineering of the Extend-ed Automation System 800xA with AC 800PEC controllers.

Learning objectivesUpon completion of this course, students will be able to:– Explain the System 800xA architecture and the function of

the different components– Create a new project and plan the structure of application

programs– Configure the AC 800PEC hardware and corresponding

I/O’s – Design and configure application programs by using a -vari-

ety of IEC 61131-3 languages – Setup the OPC connectivity to AC 800PEC– Develop project specific libraries

ParticipantsThis training is targeted to application engineers, programmers and system integrators.

PrerequisitesStudents shall know the fundamentals of working with Control Systems and have basic knowledge of Windows XP.

TopicsConfiguration:– System 800xA architecture– Engineering Workplace <-> PLC Control Builder– Project and application structures – AC 800PEC Hardware– OPC connectivity– Applications with FBD and ST– Control Modules– Sequential Function Charts (SFC)– MATLAB/Simulink Interface– Communication between controllers

MethodsThis is an instructor led course with interactive classroom dis-cussions and associated lab exercises. Approximately 50% of the course is hands-on lab activities.
