MORIOKA HISTORY AND CULTURE MUSEUM The legend says that ogre always harming local people was caught by the god of Mitsui- shi shrine. The god made him swear he would never harm the people and had him stamp his handprint on a big rock. The rock of the legend remains in the grounds. ROCK-SPLITTING CHERRY TREE It’ s built in 1923 and designed in Art Deco as well as Hibiya Kokaido located in front of Imperial Hotel in Tokyo. IWATEKEN KOKAIDO HALL This is the house where Ishikawa Takuboku lived with his wife Setsuko, parents and younger sister for about 3 weeks following his marriage in 1905. TAKUBOKU’S HONEYMOON HOUSE There is a popular coffee shop in the premises where tasty coffee and walnut cookies are served. “Majieru Building” also located in the site exhibits art pieces of Samiro Yunoki whose illustrations in Miyazawa Kenji’ s books have been well known. KOGENSYA Hoonji temple houses 499 statues including Marco Polo and Kublai Khan. The number of statues would become 500 when you include yourself who is looking at statues. You may find a face you have seen before or even a face like yours. 500 DISCIPLES OF BUDDHA (HOONJI TEMPLE) Ishikawa Takuboku and Miyazawa Kenji who spent their youth in Morioka are introduced. This 1910 structure with Romanesque style architecture originally housed the national 90th Bank.
