Aarhus School of Business

Why - these overall changes in the university sector

in Denmark 2007 - 2010

The Goal of the Danish government is to:

- strengthen Danish research and university education - in an international context

- increase the level of business collaboration and innovation of the universities

- increase the ability to attract international funding

- enhance research based services for the public authorities

- increase Danish participation in the EU Framework Programmes

- to see (one or more) Danish universities among the top ten in Europe by 2020

To achieve this goal the Government in 2007 decided to:

- Merge universities and the governmental research institutions

Aarhus School of Business

3 universities are now among the biggest

3 Danish universities are now among the biggest in Europe in terms of resources, that is

• University of Copenhagen

• University of Aarhus

• Technical University of Denmark

App. 2/3 of public research and university education in DK takes place in these 3 universities today

What has happened at ASB Library since the merges in 2007:

Library and ICT department is merged together-> New possibilities and challenges for developing new services to faculty

- Library budget and staff has not declined – rather the contrary

- ASB Library is still carrying the innovative yellow library shirt!-> the staff are innovative and have excellent skills

So… ASB Library is still ASB Library – but it has no longer status as a university library -> that affects the national and international representation and the brand

-> the highly skilled employees are very attractive to the ”new” university and to the faculties as a whole in the years to come

But - at the moment we don’t exactly know who/where we are after 2011 - !

The Future of ASB Library – What will happen?

Aarhus School of Business

U3: Measurement of Quality of Research and Libqual and Benchmark

U3: Measurement of Quality of Research and Libqual and Benchmark

Aarhus School of Business

• At the moment, the primary focus of the development group, U3, is to support the management of the new Aarhus School of Business and Social Sciences with relevant figures and analysis for the merger and restructuring process. Until now this has resulted in several reports about the research activities at the former Aarhus School of Business and the Faculty of Social Sciences at Aarhus University e.g.:

• One major report containing Curiculum Vitaes for the more than 600 academic employees at the two former institutions. The development group gathered information from several institutional information systems (e.g. the institutional repositories), and merged the information into a joint publication, displaying (among other things) the research areas for groups of researchers, as well as publications and teaching activities in the past years for individual employees.

• A co-authorship analysis on the joint publications, displaying corporational links between faculty of the two former institutions.
