New Delhi: Uncertaintyhangs over the creation of Te-langana with Union ministerJairam Ramesh saying thegovernment should not pushthrough the contentious billin the midst of a din or with-out discussion.
Rural development minis-ter Ramesh told a news chan-
nel, “Such a far-reaching billshould be discussed and debat-ed in Parliament andshould not be pushedthrough in a cacophony orprotests of a violent na-ture that are taking placein Parliament.”
Coming a day ahead ofthe government’s likely at-tempt to seek a discussion onthe Telangana bill on Monday,
the comment raises questionsabout the fate of the bill should
the protests resurface inthe Lok Sabha. The lowerHouse was rocked by vio-lence when the bill wasintroduced on Thursday,leading to the suspen-sion of 16 Andhra Pra-
desh MPs cutting across partylines.
While a majority of the an-
ti-T contingent is out of LokSabha now, textiles minister KS Rao has indicated that thoseremaining would continue theprotests should the division ofAndhra Pradesh be taken up.
As many as eight anti-Te-langana MPs, including min-isters, are still in the House af-ter escaping suspension.

Salem: The 10-year-old girl,whose body was found hang-ing from a tree on a templepremises in a hamlet in Salemdistrict, was raped and stran-gled to death, a team of doc-tors who conducted an autop-sy has said. While initialreports indicated that thegirl’s murder was part of atemple sacrifice ritual by agang searching for hiddentreasure, Vazhapadi policesaid the girl was raped beforeshe was murdered and hungfrom a tree.
“Doctors at the MohanKumaramangalam Govern-ment Medical College andHospital informed us after apreliminary postmortem ex-amination that the girl wasraped and strangled to death,”Vazhapadi police inspector CSivakumar told TOI. Howev-er, it could not be confirmedyet if she was gang-raped, hesaid. “She had injuries to theprivate parts. The viscera andvital organs have been sent fortests,” he added.
