Environmental protection

Regulation on chemical substances (REACH)This EC regulation came into force on 1 June 2007 with the aim of streamlining and improvingthe previous legal framework for chemical substances within the European Union.

REACH is the short name for Regulation EC 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and the Council of18 December 2006. REACH deals with the Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of CHemicals.

The REACH Regulation gives greater responsibility to industry to manage the risks thatchemical substances pose to health and the environment.

The main aims of REACH are:

• To improve the protection of human health and the environment from thepotential risks posed by chemical substances.

• To increase competitiveness and innovative capability• To promote alternative test methods• To allow free trade of chemical substances within the European Single MarketREACH requires industry to take responsibility for the evaluation and management of therisks that chemical substances pose and to provide safety information on the substances forsubsequent users. The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) was established to administerthe REACH Regulation and plays a central role in its implementation.

Please follow this link for further information on the substances on the REACH Candidate List:"http://ts.fujitsu.com/aboutus/company_information/business_excellence/environmental_care/production.html"

Energy saving

Energy savingAdvanced Configuration and Power Management Interface (ACPI)ACPI is an open industry standard for power management in desktop computers, notebooks and servers. Configurable energy saving functions are available oncomputers running an operating system with ACPI support.

When shipped, the computer is configured to switch automatically into energy savingmode if no inputs are made for a certain period of time (PC < 30 min, notebook < 15 min).

Please note that power consumption and associated running costs will increaseif you deactivate the energy saving features on your computer.

Max modeThis operating mode is associated with the highest power consumption. It is measured usinga standard configuration with an active operating system and applications running.

Idle mode (normal operation/standby)In this mode the computer is switched on and ready to use straight away. Powerconsumption is measured using a standard configuration with an active operatingsystem and a monitor connected and active.

In the case of notebooks: LCD screen is switched off.

Energy saving mode (ACPI-S3 - Standby)The computer can be woken up over the network or by pressing the ON/OFF switch. The ON/OFFswitch can also be configured so that the computer goes into energy saving mode when the switchis operated. Instructions on how to configure the energy saving functions (Power Options) can befound in the Help menu provided by the operating system installed on your computer.

OFF mode (ACPI-S5 - Off mode, Soft Off)The computer enters OFF mode when the operating system is shut down. At time ofsupply, the ON/OFF switch on the front of the case is configured so that the computergoes into OFF mode when the switch is pressed. Some components remain powered sothat certain functions, e.g. Wake-on-LAN, are always available.

Wake-on-LAN (WoL) is a standard that allows a computer to be startedvia its network card while it is switched off.

Power consumption in OFF mode will be higher if Wake-on-LAN has been activated inthe BIOS. Instructions on how to activate and deactivate Wake-on-LAN in the BIOS canbe found in the BIOS Setup manual or in the Technical Manual for the mainboard.

0 W power consumptionIf the PC will not be used for an extended period, then it should be switched off at the mainswitch (if fitted) or disconnected from the power system at the socket.

If the computer is connected to a power strip adapter with an ON/OFF switch(not supplied), then this can also be switched off.

Energy saving

Further information on how your device uses energy can be found at"http://ts.fujitsu.com" in the "Energy Consumption" supplement.

Ecodesign DirectiveRegulation 1275/2008, based on the EU Eco-design Directive (2009/125/EU),defines requirements for the power consumption of electrical and electronic domesticand office devices in stand-by and off mode.

There are various ways in which the requirements of this regulation may besatisfied, depending on the type of device.

System Low Power Soft Off (device-dependent)Reduces the power consumption of the device when switched off. System Low PowerSoft Off can be activated in the BIOS Setup for the device. Further information onthis is provided in the BIOS manual for your device.

If System Low Power Soft Off is active, then the system can only be switched onusing the ON/OFF switch on the case. It is not possible to switch the system onvia Wake-on-LAN or using an ON/OFF switch on a USB keyboard.

0 watt function (device-dependent)Devices bearing the additional "0 watt" mark are fully disconnected from the power systemafter being shut down. This function is activated in the BIOS prior to delivery.

Your device does not require any power after it is shut down.

The 0 watt function can be activated and deactivated in the BIOS Setup for the device.Further information on this is provided in the BIOS manual for your device.

If the 0 watt function is active, then the system can only be switched on usingthe ON/OFF switch on the case. It is not possible to switch the system on usingthe ON/OFF switch on a USB keyboard or via Wake-on-LAN.

Devices with a separate ON/OFF switch (device-dependent)Some devices are supplied with a separate ON/OFF switch fitted tothe power supply or power adapter cable. In order to comply with therequirements of Regulation 1275/2008, always switch the device off at theON/OFF switch after shutting down.

Your device does not require any power after it is switched off.

Devices without the above-mentioned special functions meet the requirements ofregulation 1275/2008 as standard upon delivery.
