    Are the

    interview

    s and vox

    pops well

    framed?

    No = 1

    Yes = 17

    Q3: What have you learned from your audience feedback?

    During the research and planning process for our documentary, we used questionnaires

    to gather more information about our target audience and what ideas they had that

    could help make a successful television documentary. Through this method we found

    out what channel would be best to broadcast our documentary and what elements we

    should include within our project. After finishing the documentary and the other two

    ancillary tasks, we decided to make a second questionnaire in order to gain feedback on

    our documentary, radio trail and magazine article.

    Documentary

    We asked a sample of eighteen students on whether the sound levels were clear,

    consistent and if it fitted in well with the documentary. We got mixed results as some

    people thought that they were good, while others felt that improvements could have

    been made. We also asked that if there were any problems, what they were and

    students responded saying that the backing music was too loud and that the voice over

    could have been made clearer. If we were to improve on our documentary then this is

    something that we can definitely work upon.

    When we asked on whether the documentary used all the normal conventions of a

    standard professional documentary, all of the eighteen students answered with yes.

    Again everyone also said yes when asked if they thought that the shots were well

    processed between each cut. Both of these

    questions showed that our sample thought that the

    documentary was put together really well and that

    as a group; we produced a professional looking

    documentary. However when we asked if the

    interviews and vox pops were well framed, only

    one person responded with no meaning that there

    is some room for improvement.

    Were the volumes

    consistent?

    Yes = 14

    No = 4

    Are the voice overs

    clear and concise?

    Yes = 16

    No = 2

    Does the music work

    well with the

    documentary?

    Does this magazine

    feature the normal

    conventions of a

    television magazine?

    Yes = 18

    No = 0

    We wanted to know if there were any improvements that our sample could suggest that

    would make our documentary better. The following responses were:

    I. Turn the backing music down.II. Remove the found footage of David Cameron.

    III. Make it more interesting and upbeat.These suggestions can all be taking in to consideration if we were to improve on our

    documentary, especially the found footage as it was blurry in the final product.

    Double Page Spread

    We also wanted to know if we could make any

    improvements to our ancillary tasks and when we asked

    Does this magazine feature the normal conventions of a

    television magazine? our entire sample responded withyes. This shows that we created a professional looking

    double page spread and we are very pleased with this

    result.

    In our next questions we asked whether the double page spread looked appealing and if

    the double page conveyed enough information. It was shown that improvements could

    be made to our magazine by trying to make it more appealing as only one person

    responded with no. Meanwhile the entire sample agreed that enough information was

    provided, which we found to be a pleasing result, giving us confidence that we created a

    good quality double page spread.

    We also asked the sample what they liked the most about the double page spread with

    the responses being:

    I. The colours that were used.II. The layout of the double page spread.

    III. It looked professional.IV. Followed the conventions.

    the radio trail?

    Yes

    No

    The most popular answer here was the colours and overall we felt very pleased with

    our work as everyone gave positive feedback, meaning that we accomplished in what

    we set out to do. We also asked if there were any suggestions that could be made to

    improve the double page spread, the answers are as followed:

    I. Change the yellow masthead.II. Change the colours.

    This showed that not everyone liked the vivid colours that we used but we used the

    same colour scheme as that of Whats on TV magazine, which we would use in order to

    publish our product. I personally think that our magazine article is up to a good

    standard and changes could be made easily if we were to improve on the double page

    spread.

    Radio Trail

    For our radio trail we asked our sample

    Does the radio trail make you want to

    watch the documentary? most people

    said that they would be interested in

    watching the documentary after

    hearing the radio advertisement.

    However four people disagreed,

    meaning that we should try to find out

    why these people felt that way andimprovements we could try to make in

    order for them to be more interested.We aslo asked Are the sound

    levels consistent throughout

    the trail? and Does the music

    work with the voice over in

    the radio trail?. The results

    show that more work would

    be required in order to

    improve the sound levels, as

    four people thought that they

    were not consistent. The

    entire sample found no

    problem with the music in the

    radio trail, showing that compared to the music in the documentary, the music was of

    much better standards as we used synths to make the music in the radio trail more

    modern.

    Another question that we asked was Do you find the extracts gave enough

    information? The results for this was very pleasing as it showed that everyone found

    that enough information was given out. Along with all the other positive feedback from

    the other questions we feel that we have made a decent radio trail, however it is clear

    that improvements can be made to make it even better/ professional.

    We also wanted to find out if any of our sample disliked anything about our radio trail in

    order to find what improvements and changes that can be made. The results were as

    followed:

    I. Voice over is too fast paced.II. The bell at the start.

    III. Music is too loud.If we were to do the task of making a radio trail again, then these are definitely areas

    that we could improve on. The music volume tends to be a common problem in both the

    documentary and the radio trail and these results provide us with a good reason to

    check the final sound levels to make sure they are as good as they can be in future

    projects.
