These locations are remote and have

low lighting. These are suitable for the

Indie Rock genre because they have

a deserted and isolated feel to them

and add mystery to the scenes. We could film narrative or performance scenes in Guildford

industrial estate.

An urban setting would allow the audience

to connect with the song because it

represents street life and could have links to

their home life. This could evoke emotional reactions from the audience if they feel

they can relate to the locations and song.

We could film in Guildford town centre car

parks or back streets/alleys.

Many Indie Rock videos include the use of

an outdoor location. If green fields are used

they will contrast with the dark costumes

worn by the band making them stand out

from their surrounding. We could film on the Hogs back or the

Chantries. Guildford is a green town which

offers many more rural and outdoor filming

locations.

These smart casual outfits are suitable for the genre because it links the band members because have similar themes but their clothes are un branded and show individual style.

The clothes are up-to-date and in style.

This will appeal to our late teens-early 20s

target audience because it reflects their

personal style.

This darker style of clothing may be more appropriate for our Indie Rock genre. The band is still unified by similar styles and again no branded clothes are worn, but these clothes are more casual.

Research into Indie Rock has

shown us that this style (darker

colours and more casual) is

favoured by the bands.

Most Record Labels especialise or focus on genre of music.

‘Across The Skyline’ by Crash Island is an Indie Rock song. For this

reason, a suitable record label for this band would be Rough

Trade Records.

Rough Trade started as a record store in 1976. It became a label in 1978, working

with small, undiscovered British bands. They became successful having signed

The Smiths in 1983.

They went bankrupt in 1991, forcing them to close for nine years. They did re-launch

again in 2000 and did very well by signing The Strokes, a small New York band; now

much more famous and successful.

Bands such as The Smiths and

The Strokes are Indie Rock

bands similar to our chosen band. This means that this label

is appropriate for our song.

Well planned and considered

cinematography will enhance the quality of

the video produced and create a better viewing experience.

Close ups of the artists will prevail throughout the music video. Close up shots allow the

audience to see the artists singing the lyrics, creating a link between music/lyric and visuals.

And should we choose to create a narrative, close ups of the singing identify him as not only

a character but also the artists to the audience.

Focusing on instruments or other props which

are appropriate to this music genre will also be included. The audience expects these

focal points due to the codes and

conventions of the Indie Rock genre.

Because of the nature of this genre, we will include long and medium long shots

of the band playing. This is because it is commonplace to see the band

performing in Indie Rock/Rock music videos. Long shots can also be used during

narrative sections, for example to show a character in their surroundings.

For any narrative parts of the music video; establishing shots may be used to ‘set

the scene’. Establishing shots are useful if the director/producer is trying to

convey a message or idea about the location or the artist through mise-en-

scene. Doing this in our music video would improve the quality of the final work.

Using the title of the song ‘Across The Skyline’ for inspiration, a panning shot of a

skyline or horizon line would be very fitting and creative, making the viewing

experience varied and enjoyable.

The editing is what brings the music video together; the higher the quality of the

editing the more successful our music video will be.

Fading in at the start and fading out at the end of the video would be suitable for

our song. This would provide a smoother transition to start and end the video with,

which would make for better viewing experience and a quality finish. It is also

appropriate for the song as the music itself fades in and out, thus synchronizing

music with visuals.

Straight cuts/invisible editing- adds a realistic feel to the narrative allowing the

audience to feel immersed with in the video.

The music in this song offers lots of opportunities to edit shots and transitions to the

beat of the music, enhancing the quality of the finished work and the overall

viewing experience.
