Mrs Johnson and eight students attended a Drumming Workshop at Orange High School last week. Con‐gratulations Tamara Lees, Joshua Berney, Corey Furminger, Jayden Cusack, Harrison Blatch, Ankica Koneska and Tryone Bateman for not only your commitment to learning how to play the instrument but also your attitude and interest in working with a group to make it happen.  I know that Mrs Johnson has plans to expand our music program and the more students who become involved will benefit perform‐ances like Education Week and our school Presentation Night. Another event that the school will be in‐volved in is the Wellington Eisteddfod. Practice for instrument and vocal sections are happening this term.   Anaru Poihakena‐Jackson, Joshua Lees, Harrison Blatch, Jayden Cusack, Tyrone Bateman, Jack Berney and Aden Charnock have been asked to be part of our Boys’ Choral group to attend a workshop on Wednes‐day. This is a good opportunity for the boys to show their abilities and perform to an audience.  A number of students have been selected to represent our school at the next level of the CWA Public Speaking Competition. Congratulations: Claire Smith, Boudicea Blatch, Bridget Smith, Lachlan Blatch,   Harrison Blatch, Ankica Konesca, Kaitlin Jeffery, Darby Tremain, Kaitlyn Butler, Paige Murphy, Alicia McConnell and Brittney Smith. Good luck with your presentation and enjoy the experience.

Program 

Year 7 – 10 examinations will be held this week on 28th & 30th May. All students will have completed units of work in class that will be part of their exams. Students need to attend school to complete exams and assessments. Student reports for parents will be available in Week 9.     Parent/Teacher interviews are sched‐uled for Thursday 28th June  Some members of our Student Represen‐tative Council (SRC) will be attending a network meeting with many other stu‐dents from Dubbo and District schools on Wednesday. This is an opportunity for our students to meet other students and share ideas. One of the main items will be the regional target about student en‐gagement at school and student feed‐back about quality teaching.   Charles Sturt University (CSU) are visiting our school on Tuesday to hold workshops about university life and courses offered for all students. The program “Future Moves” is all about informing students about career pathways after school. The presentation of workshops for students is selected according to their age and aca‐demic year.  Mrs Joanne Blatch has been successful through merit selection and has been ap‐pointed as Assistant Principal at Orana Heights Public School in Dubbo. This ap‐pointment will commence at the begin‐ning of Term 3. We will advertise the As‐sistant Principal position at Yeoval Cen‐tral School in Term 3. We wish Mrs Blatch and her family every success with their new school and position in Dubbo. Harry and Lachlan will be missed at Yeoval Cen‐tral.  Values aren’t taught in a single lesson but begin at home with parents and are em‐bedded in the daily life at school.

  KIDZ QUIZ The Quiz is for students to test their  general knowledge.   All students are invited to complete  the quiz and hand it in at the office  by Thursday each week by 3.20 pm.

many apples do I want?  HELPING KIDS BEAT THE BLUES  Did you know that one in four children over 12 has significant depressive symptoms? Sometimes it’s hard to know if your child has a real mental prob‐lem or is just suffering from teenage ‘moodiness’.  Listen to Professor Ian Hickie, from the Brain and Mind Institute at the University of Sydney, talking about depression in school age kids, how to recog‐nise it and what you can do to help.   Go to: www.schoolatoz.nsw.edu.au/wellbeing/health/managing‐depression‐in‐children.   ROAD SAFETY  It’s important to remind children, especially younger ones of the need to be vigilant when out and about. Talk to your child about road safety and model good behaviour yourself. For lots of good safety reminders, Kidsafe NSW has an informative website with a number of free brochures and fact sheets on maintaining a safe environment for your child and teaching them about staying safe. They are also available in several community languages. Www.kidsafensw.org 

SCHOOL CATTLE TEAM  DUBBO SHOW  On Saturday 18 June, 2012 a team of four stu‐dents; Alicia McConnell, Cody McConnell, Darby Tremain and Stephannie Mobbs all went to the Dubbo Show and showed Mr and Mrs McConnell’s, TLMAC Limousin Stud cattle.  They took in seven head of cattle, which included; two cows, two heifers, two calves and one bull.  The team were successful in winning many         ribbons: 2 third places 2 second places 1 first place Reserve Champion Sires Progeny and a second with a pair of heifers.  They all showed really well and I would like to thank Darby and Stephannie for their help on the day. As well as Mr and Mrs McConnell for bringing in the cattle for us.
