Director’s NoteI’m so glad you and your family are joining us for A Year with Frog and Toad. One of the best parts of directing children’s theater is the opportunity to make some of my favorite books come to life on stage.Frog and Toad are the best of friends and their stories remind us about the power of friendship. They are there for each other through thick and thin and they love and accept each other (warts and all). Arnold Lobel’s stories are about the simple things in life and how they are enhanced by sharing them with friends. Flying a kite, raking leaves, telling scary stories, and going sledding are all wonderful experiences to share and savor. As Frog reminds us, “Sometimes the days, they can be very busy so I like to stop and think now and then. I think of the reasons I have to be happy and that makes me happy all over again.”

Our Year with Frog and Toad is filled with joy, tenderness, and laughter. And thanks to this incredible cast and crew, my time with Frog and Toad has been filled with those things too. I hope you are here with a friend or loved one and sharing a wonderful time at A Year with Frog and Toad.

Save time and money by buying your Season Tickets during intermission. The box office is open for your convenience. And remember — gifts of experiences are always welcome. Buy a gift certificate to any upcoming OFT show, and make a child (or family’s) day.

Biographies Josh AndersonJosh Anderson is excited to work on OFT’s Frog and Toad. Past OFT shows include You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown, Rapunzel, and Schoolhouse Rock (all MD). In addition to his work with OFT, Josh has directed and/or musically directed Brain From Planet X!, Reefer Madness, Cannibal, and Nite of the Living Dead!, his original musical adaptation of the George Romero film, all for Theater Artists Olympia. He has also directed or musically directed Capital Playhouse’s Students on Stage Program, Tacoma Musical Playhouse, the Twilight Lounge, Our Time Musical Theater Troupe (NY), Vocal Minority (NY), as well as various revues for Cabaret, Cabaret (NY). Onstage, Josh has performed with CP, OFT, TAO, Prodigal Sun Productions, OTMtt, Improv Robot and TMP. When not making theatrical magic, Josh teaches theater and voice up and down the I-5 corridor, is the music director at Unity Church, serves on the board of POSSCA and TAO, and pals around with Saul Tannenbaum.

Terri CharlesTerri is wildly jazzed about playing Turtle in this show! She just can’t seem to get enough of OFT’s musicals, this being #4, as she played a bird in OFT’s first production of Frog and Toad, Rapunzel's mom/the witch, after that, then a Schoolhouse Rock character named Terri last spring. She flirted with dramatic theatre as the Mother in The Giver, enjoying that genre as well. Terri is happy to play a mom in real life, having the three best kids in the world — Ben, Chris, and Emily. Several other kids (but much shorter in stature than her own) reside in her heart as well, as she is fortunate to do what she loves — singing, dancing, being silly with very young children (birth – seven year olds) and their grown-ups in Music With TLC — for her “work.”

Baylie FreemanBaylie Freeman is a newcomer to Olympa Family Theater and the local theatre community, having done most of her work through The Evergreen State

College. She has recently played Audrey Two in Little Shop of Horrors and was part of the ensemble that performed The Cagebirds by David Crampton. Baylie has been acting and directing for most of her life, much to the dismay of her practical family, who continue to worry about her ability to make grown-up money, but she appreciates their consistent (if misguided) support. Enjoy!

Harrison FryHarrison is super excited to be performing with OFT and and the amazing cast of Frog and Toad! He has done theater around the area for years. He would like to thank his family and friends for their support! Love out to C-Dawg! “all we need is love”

Meghan GoodmanMeghan Goodman is super duper excited to be back on stage with OFT. You may have seen her before in A Year with Frog and Toad, Reviving Ophelia or James and the Giant Peach. When she isn’t on stage

Meghan can be found painting sets or playing with her little guy, Sam. She is so happy that her family is supportive of her theater time and is honored to be working with such a talented cast and crew.

Jenny GreenleeJenny Greenlee has been in front of and behind the scenes for most of her life. She has been an actress, director, stage manager, lightening designer, prop mistress, costumer, choreographer, and virtually every other role in a production. Jenny has worked with five local theater companies and currently works on productions with Olympia Family Theater and Theater Artists Olympia. Some of her favorite shows include Charlotte’s Web, Secret Garden, Murder in the Cathedral, and The Tempest. She is very excited to be directing for Olympia Family Theater again and hopes to continue bringing classic children’s literature to the stage. She thanks her boyfriend, pets and friends for putting up with her long absences.

Biographies (continued) Sarah Gene JolleySarah is thrilled to be a part of another WONDERFUL OFT production! Ever since seeing Frog and Toad during OFT’s first season and falling madly in love with the musical score and story of genuine friendship between Frog and Toad, Sarah yearned to play one of their feathered friends. What a true honor to have the opportunity! A lover and supporter of local theater, you can see Sarah’s work both on stage and as a techie around Olympia. She is also honored to work behind-the-scenes in her position as a board member of Olympia Family Theater. A million smooches to you, Smoochie!

Rochelle MorrisRochelle is pleased as punch to be playing a Bird in A Year with Frog and Toad, her new favorite musical. Rochelle took OFT audiences by storm with her portrayal of Sally Brown in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. She has also had the pleasure

to perform with Prodigal Sun Productions, Theatre Artists Olympia, South Puget Sound Community College and The Evergreen State College. A transplant from WWU, Rochelle has worked her way into everday Olympia life and studies the art of theatre at Evergreen by day and takes to the stage by night. For money, you can find this starlet slinging seafood at Anthony’s Homeport, where each shift is a show. Up next, catch Rochelle perform as Ann Wilson in The Night of the Living Tribute Bands at The Capital Theatre and as Rita Reinhardt in Saul Tannenbaum’s Horn O’ Plenty.

Caitlin ObomCaitlin Obom is a recent graduate of The Evergreen State College. She was last seen onstage in Riot to Follow’s production of Little Shop of Horrors as Mushnick and could be seen on TCTV this summer as Felia in Space 4 Rent. She is very excited to be in her first family theater show.

Page 11: A Year with Frog and Toad - archives.olyft.org

Rachelle RiehlRachelle Riehl is excited to be making her Olympia theatre debut with Olympia Family Theater. She is a native Californian transplanted to Olympia from Boston via New England Conservatory where she received a double Master’s in Opera and Vocal Performance. While attending NEC she performed the roles of Mrs. Ford in Nicolai’s The Merry Wives of Windsor and Helena in Britten’s A Mid Summer Night’s Dream under the baton of John Moriarty. Her musical theatre roles include Madame de la Grande Bouche/Beauty and the Beast, Sister Maragetta/Sound of Music, Rebecca Hershkowitz/Rags, The Witch/Into the Woods, Svetlana/Chess, Eliza Doolittle/My Fair Lady, Martha/Secret Garden, Petra/A Little Night Music, Beggar Woman/Sweeney Todd, Celeste 1/Sunday in the Park with George and Edith/Pirates of Penzance. I would like to thank my hubby for holding down the fort and the cat while I play.

Ted RyleTed Ryle, Lizard, Father Frog, Ensemble. After taking a year off, Ted is excited to be back on stage for his 9th OFT production. Dude...this stuff is fun!

Amy ShephardAmy is all a twitter to be performing with OFT for her second time! Amy has always enjoyed a life in theatrical arts. She graduated from The Evergreen State College in 2005 and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts with a focus in Performance. She is currently applying to Master’s programs and taking a variety of performance classes all over the Pacific Northwest. As her day job she is your best friend’s best friend as a dog daycare attendant! Favorite roles include Charlotte in Charlotte’s Web, Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Abigail Williams in The Crucible, and most recently Donna in The Brain From Planet X. She would like to thank the Olympia community for continuing to make theater an important part of its development! Cheers!!

Biographies (continued) Steven WellsThis will be Steven’s first production with the OFT family and he is very happy to be a part of this cast. After his years at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy Steven lived and performed in both LA and Chicago. Some of Steven’s more recent productions include his roles of Mr. Howe in Capital Playhouse’s production of Annie, brother Gad in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Mr. Bucket in the show Willy Wonka, and Sir Luce in the SMU production of Once Upon a Mattress.

Managing Director’s NoteFive years ago, Jen Ryle and I were introduced by a mutual friend who knew we both had a desire to start a “children’s” theater in Olympia. We began our enterprise with $1,000 of our own money, and put on Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland at the very humble Midnight Sun performance space. Now, five years later we are producing five shows per year, offering an ever expanding array of educational programs, all the while making sure that we are making our offerings as accessible as possible: Giving away tickets to folks who wouldn’t normally attend theater, providing scholarships to families who need them in order for their children to attend our camps, and donating tickets and gift-certificates to other charities in the area. But all of this is only possible because generous people in our community make it possible. To all the small business owners, struggling in a shaky economy who remain generous in their support of us, we say “Thank you.” To each parent who has donated money to our scholarship fund to make sure other people’s children can have an enriching and fun experience, we say “Thank you.” For the countless volunteer hours provided by so may talented people, we say “Thank you.” For

everyone who has donated, a little or a lot, to make sure OFT can fulfill its mission, we thank you ever so humbly, from the bottom of our hearts. And to audience members, whether this is your first OFT show or your 17th(!) we are thrilled to have you here, and hope you will keep coming to our shows for many years to come.
