MILLE MIGLIAMore than just a classic car rally, itshistory makes Mille Miglia a uniqueevent: 80 years of passion, emotions andtradition.

The Mille Miglia competition is only forvehicles built between 1927 and 1957. Ittakes place over 3 days departing fromBrescia, arriving in Rome and returningnonstop to Brescia, on normal roadsopen to trafc.

The race attracts thousands of fansfrom all over the world, especially on theoccasion of the vehicle pit stops, which

are undertaken in the historic streetsand piazzas of Brescia. CENTOMIGLIA REGATTACentomiglia is a sailing regatta held inSeptember every year on Lake Garda. Itbegan in 1951 with 17 boats participating;today there are more than 300 sailboats

and it is a spectacular site to see them outon the lake together. The regatta beginsat the port of Bogliaco (Gargnano), thentravels north along the lake as far as Riva,before navigating south to Desenzano andreturning again to Gargnano. Centomiglia isthe longest European lake regatta, althoughthe length of the route varies accordingto the type and size of the boats. It is avery difcult competition, with high levelparticipants including some of the sailorsand skippers who will go on to compete inthe Americas Cup and other internationallevel competitions.www.centomiglia.it

GIMONDI BIKEInternational mountain bike competitionwhich takes place every year in lateSeptember in Iseo. The competition boasts acharming route through the delightful settingof Franciacorta, among hills, vineyards andmedieval castles. From thissection of the race, the Torbiere del Sebinomountains are visible to the left in all theirsplendour. interpretations of this dish. BAGOLINO CARNIVALFebruary is the month o the BagolinoCarnival. The Carnival began in thesixteenth century and has many uniqueeatures. The estivities begin on Sunday,

when a group o dancing ballerinas,masked fgures and allegorical oatsparade through the town streets. The nextday the dancers begin their frst dance,but Tuesday marks the real Carnival day,with dancing until nightall. There are twodistinct stages to the estivities: frst, thedancers (balar), dressed in embroidered

jackets and knee breeches, stockings, whiteshirts and black ties, with a shawl o vividlycoloured silk, dance below the homes oriends and relatives and especially thosewho have donated the gold, ribbons and

jewellery used to decorate their estivehats; then the masked fgures (mascher),dress as old men and women and speak tothe tourists in alsetto voices, making silly

jokes without their true identity ever beingrecognisedthe estivities are spontaneousand there are no rules! What doesw itmean? It means that you can expect
