    MILLE MIGLIAMore than just a classic car rally, itshistory makes Mille Miglia a uniqueevent: 80 years of passion, emotions andtradition.

    The Mille Miglia competition is only forvehicles built between 1927 and 1957. Ittakes place over 3 days departing fromBrescia, arriving in Rome and returningnonstop to Brescia, on normal roadsopen to trafc.

    The race attracts thousands of fansfrom all over the world, especially on theoccasion of the vehicle pit stops, which

    are undertaken in the historic streetsand piazzas of Brescia. TheMuseum is located in a Benedictineconvent dedicated to Saints Salvatoreand Giulia, established in 753 AD by theLombard King Desiderius. In 2011, Lake Gardaentered the Guinness Book o WorldRecords with a pyrotechnic spectaclewhich occurred at the same time inall the towns along Lake Garda: theGreat Night o the Stars.     CENTOMIGLIA REGATTACentomiglia is a sailing regatta held inSeptember every year on Lake Garda. Itbegan in 1951 with 17 boats participating;today there are more than 300 sailboats

    and it is a spectacular site to see them outon the lake together. The regatta beginsat the port of Bogliaco (Gargnano), thentravels north along the lake as far as Riva,before navigating south to Desenzano andreturning again to Gargnano. Centomiglia isthe longest European lake regatta, althoughthe length of the route varies accordingto the type and size of the boats. It is avery difcult competition, with high levelparticipants including some of the sailorsand skippers who will go on to compete inthe Americas Cup and other internationallevel competitions.www.centomiglia.it

    GIMONDI BIKEInternational mountain bike competitionwhich takes place every year in lateSeptember in Iseo. The competition boasts acharming route through the delightful settingof Franciacorta, among hills, vineyards andmedieval castles. The ascent up MonteCognolo is the most difcult portion of theroute, and also the most exciting. From thissection of the race, the Torbiere del Sebinomountains are visible to the left in all theirsplendour. After this point, the hardest part isover and the route ends with a breath-takingdescent to Iseo where, after a short journeyalong the main streets of the centre of town,the nish line awaits.

    Franciacorta has its own Festival (inSeptember) during which the wineriesorganise tastings of the prestigiousFranciacorta DOCG, tasting coursesand themed menus, remaining opento visitors from enthusiasts who wantto make purchases directly from thewinery.

    There are various food festivalsdedicated to seasonal avoursand local products (the Crafts andAgriculture Fair at Cazzago SanMartino; Erbusco on the Table inErbusco and many others), but after allthis is a special season for all Brescianagriculture.

    A BRESCIAN PRODUCT: CASONCELLOThe casoncello (a raviolo lled withmeant and other ingredients) is Bresciaspride and joy. There are thousands of

    interpretations of this dish. In February,you must visit Breno, in the CamonicaValley, where you will nd caicc (casoncelli);to the south of Brescia in Gambara, inMarch, the local trattorias serve tortellistuffed with pumpkin (a Mantuan inuence).Pumpkin is also a key ingredient in thetortelli served in April in Montichiari; thenin June in Palazzolo you will nd csonsi,stuffed with meat this time.
