Class: 11

Time: 40 min.

Objectives: to raise awareness among students about the topic; to improve their language skills

and IT skills.

Materials: 1. Handout 1

3. Mobile phones/ laptops with the Internet connection.

Procedure:

1 Students work in pairs. They ask and answer the questions.

- What do you like and dislike about travel?- What is the longest journey you have been on?- What was the best trip you’ve ever been on?- What was the last school outing you went on?- Have you ever been on a package tour or on an excursion while on holiday?- Would you like to go on a cruise?- Would you like to go on a long sea voyage?

2 Students introduce the most interesting answers to the class.

3 Students work in pairs. They translate the questions in their native language to find the most appropriate word in Latvian for the words in Italics. Then students check the answers as a class.

4 Students work in pairs. Students look at the photos and try to guess the places matching them with the countries: Italy, Germany, Sweden, Latvia, Poland and Turkey, and cities/towns: Bosa, Lippstadt, Izmir, Drawske Pomorske, Lund and Riga. They share the information they know about the places. (Handout 1)

5 Students work in groups. Using the Internet students find more information about the cities and towns in the photos (each student looks for the information about different place).

6 Students tell their group mates about the places basing on the information they found.

5 Students work in pairs. Students choose 2 places in the photos. Using the key words they write brief notes about them. (Handout 2)

6 Students present their descriptions to the class.
