Principal’s message 

Our primary deba ng team have begun the Western  Challenge  Primary  Deba ng                 Compe on with a win over Narromine PS. Chloe Harley, Madi Hopkins, Will Horsburgh and  Robert  Adam  all  did  extremely  well, speaking  clearly  and  presen ng  a  range  of good arguments. I should also add that Kira Roberts was  an  excellent  chairperson,  and Lachie Makim did a great job as  mekeeper. My  thanks  go  to Mr Bill Messner  for  once again  being  adjudicator,  and  to Mrs  Rose               Mar n for coaching the team. Last year we were  the  champion  school  in  the Western Challenge  and  it will  be  interes ng  to  see how  far  we  can  progress  this  year.                   Whatever  the  outcome,  it  is wonderful  to have this commitment and enthusiasm from our primary deba ng team at TCS! Keep up the good work and all the best. 

The  Music  Workshop  held  at  Trangie  last Thursday was again a fantas c success with over 100  students  from  schools  across our district  taking  part.  Our  musicians:  Will Horsburgh,  Claire  Barbary,  Charlo e                   Lindsay,  Stewart  Jarvis,  Angus  Baker,                    Ashleigh Horsburgh, Zanthie Hewe , Archie Baldwinson  and  Grace  Barbary  enjoyed their  day.  They  will  have  benefi ed  from this  wonderful  opportunity,  being  tutored within  a  group  and  then  playing  in  the                   concert at the end of the day. My thanks to Trangie CS for hos ng this workshop and to Mr Mar n  Lee  and Mrs  Susan  Larkings  for all  their  efforts  in  promo ng  music  and making days such as this happen. 

Last  week,  32  primary  students                     competed  in  the Gobondery/NARRAF  cross country  at  Tullamore.  I  understand  that some  excellent  results  were  achieved,  in‐cluding Alice Radford and Laura Harley win‐ning  their  age  division  and  seven  students qualifying for WA PSSA Cross Country. These great results culminated in To enham gain‐ing second place. Congratula ons to all our cross country compe tors. My thanks go to Mrs  Lindsay  and Mrs  Adam  for  organising and suppor ng the team. Thanks also to all our parent supporters for helping transport and encourage our students. 

Over  the  last  few  months  we  have  been                 developing a new School Plan, which will be effec ve  for  the  next  three  years.  The  full School Plan  is on our website.   The first part of  this  process  was  se ng  three  strategic direc ons. And they are as  follows:‐ 

Strategic  Direc on  1  ‐  Quality                      Educa onal Prac ces Purpose:  To  con nue  to  develop                    consistent,  quality  educa onal  prac ces across  all  Key  Learning  Areas  (KLA’s)              resul ng  in  improved  student                      achievement.  To  provide  our  students  with the  best  possible  prepara on  for  success  in society.  Strategic  Direc on  2  ‐  Student                      EngagementTI Purpose:  To  enhance  student                      engagement  and  a ainment  of                    educa onal  outcomes.  This  will  lead  to                successful learning.  

Strategic Direc on 3 ‐ School Culture Purpose:  To  con nue  to  enhance  a                  posi ve  school  culture  where  students  are engaged  and  develop  posi ve  a tudes                 towards becoming successful.   

Last  week  surveys  on  ‘school  culture’  were distributed  to  parents,  teachers  and                      students.  Early  results  indicate  that  most people are  rela vely happy with  the  ‘school culture’. However,  there are  indica ons  that we need to improve in some areas.  

Best  wishes  to  all  Stage  4  and  Stage  5                    students  who  begin  their  Semester  One                exams this week. Year 11 students have been si ng  their  half  yearly  exams  and  it  is                   extremely  pleasing  to  hear  how  seriously these students have approached their exams. Well  done  Kane  Hardy,  Leonie  Jones  and    Amy‐Lee Wilson!

MERIT SYSTEM Congratula ons  to  Shauna  Pollard  who  has                recently  achieved  Bronze  level  in  the  Merit                  System.  

SCHOOL SPRAY JACKETS Parents are reminded that school spray jackets are not to be worn  in classrooms. Children need to wear their school jumper under their jacket, so it can be taken off and le  on the pegs outside their classroom. This  rule will  be  strictly  adhered  to,  as  a  safety  precau on    inside the classroom.  WESTERN CHALLENGE DEBATING Congratula ons  to  our  primary  deba ng  team who defeated Narromine in the first round of the Western Challenge.  Our  next  debate  is  against  Trangie,  in Trangie, on Thursday, 11th June.   CWA PUBLIC SPEAKING Good luck to our four students who are compe ng in the annual Public Speaking Compe on  in Parkes on Tuesday.  They  are:  Zanthie  Hewe ,  Ashleigh                  Horsburgh, Anneka Lees and Kira Roberts.

SRC STUDENT LEADERSHIP DAY Last  Thursday,  Hannah  and  Bridget  travelled  to Parkes to par cipate in a SRC student day. Through‐out  the  day we  learnt  different  leaderships  strate‐gies and ways in which to improve the SRC. Overall,  It was  an  enjoyable  day  and  it was  interes ng  to learn  how  others  run  SRCs  in  their  schools.  Thank you to Miss Hall for taking us.  PRIMARY INTERVIEWS The  schedule  for primary  interviews  is  included    in this newsle er  again.    Please  contact  the office  to organise  alterna ves if these  mes do not suit.  BOOK CLUB Book  Club  orders  are  due  back  on  or  before               Monday, 1st June. Cheques should be made payable to To enham Central School  TERM 2 COMBINED MUSIC DAY The Combined Music Day, which was held at Trangie,  was  again  a  success  this  term.  With  around  101                  students  a ending,  they  came  from:  Trangie,                   Tullamore,  To enham,  Yeoval,  Peak  Hill,  Gilgandra and Dubbo South. I would like to thank all the parents for  their  support  for  this  day,  the  students  for  the their  dedica on  and Mr  Lee  at  Trangie  for  doing  a wonderful job organising the day.

 ATTENDANCE AND ABSENCES 

 Missing  school  means  your  child  misses  out  on  vital  information  and  maintaining  learning                 routines. This can result in a loss of confidence and missing out on forming vital friendships. 

Attendance  is  recorded  each day. As a parent or  caregiver  you are  responsible  for  ensuring your  child              attends school every day, including sports days unless your child: 

has an unavoidable medical or dental appointment (preferably these should be made after school or during holidays) 

is required to attend a recognised religious holiday 

is required to attend an exceptional or urgent family circumstance (such as attending a  funeral) 

is sick, or has an infectious illness. 

Students  need  to  attend  school  regularly  to  meet  the  course  requirements  of  the  Higher  School                 

Certificate. 

If  you  are having difficulty getting  your  child  to  attend  school  regularly,  you might  like  to  talk  to  the 

school principal or the school counsellor. 

If your child has to be absent from school for any reason, including arriving late or leaving early, please 

either notify your child's teacher or the administration staff at our school, or explain the reason by phone, 

email, or written note as soon as possible, or within seven days.

TENNIS COACHING – SCHOOL HOLIDAYS

Craig Christopher who coached in Tottenham, sometime ago, has offered to come out during

the school holidays and conduct a 3 day tennis clinic. The proposed dates are Monday 6th July – Wednesday 8th July

9am – 12pm $45 per child.

The clinic will only be run dependant upon sufficient numbers. Could you please submit
