Panopto was founded at Carnegie Mellon University, one of the world’s leading research institutions, on the idea that video could enhance the learning process for students, faculty, and administration. Lecture capture has entered the educational vernacular and is changing the way educators and students perceive the learning experience. We know that a number of recent studies have demonstrated that individual control over the pace of learning increases student motivation and engagement, connecting students and content via easy-to-master technology. Recording and submitting presentations has never been easier to do, and has never produced such a sophisticated result. Students can create an integrated video presentation with slides, websites via screen capture and even a second video stream, and then upload to a specified dropbox for secure viewing and evaluation. GIVE INTERACTIVE FEEDBACK ON STUDENTS’ WORK07Faculty members at a number of universities are exploring the use of video and desktop recording to provide individualized feedback on students’ assignments. A one-on-one critique that includes a visual display of the assignment and call-outs to critical points can now be recorded anywhere, and students can review feedback as many times as necessary to gain clarity of a missed concept.
