Maurice Salles has been the keystone of the creation of the journal Social choice and Welfare, with his colleagues and friends Werner Müller, Wulf Gaertner, Prasanta Pattanaik and Jerry Kelly. He has been the chief editor and coordinator of the journal since the publication of the first issue in 1984.
The society Social choice and Welfare also originated from the dynamics of Maurice Salles in 1992. He has been the se-cretary-treasurer of the society since then. ScW conferences are organized every other year.
Maurice Salles has published numerous seminal contributions since 1974 in social choice theory and cooperative game theory. He is still an active researcher in these domains.
He is also a friend of us all.

CALL FOR PAPERS
Grand colloque de l’ADRES 2009
New Developments in Social Choice and Welfare Theories Conferences in honor of Maurice Salles
Jointly organized by CREM, University of Caen and THEMA, University of Cergy Pontoise
In June 2009, the ADRES (Association pour le Développement de la Recherche en Economie et Statistiques) will organize its main conference in Caen. The conference will be devoted to “New developments in Social Choice and Welfare Theories”. The event will provide an opportunity to reflect on over fifty years of research in social choice and welfare theories and identify the most promising areas for future research. In particular, it will draw upon the expertise of researchers who have contributed to the development and success of the international scientific journal “Social Choice and Welfare”, which will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its creation in May 1984. As most of you already know, the conference will also be a tribute to Maurice Salles, one of the founding members of the journal and the society for Social Choice and Welfare, who will retire in August 2009.
The conference will take place at the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences in the University of Caen from 10th to 12th of June 2009.
You are most welcome to indicate whether or not you intend to participate in this conference. The official deadlines are:
• Submission : March, 1st 2009 • Acceptation : April, 1st 2009 • Registration : May, 1st 2009
Abstracts, or full papers, should be send to Vincent Merlin ( [email protected]) and Fabrice Valognes ([email protected] ).
For participants who wish to, we will offer the possibility of publishing the paper presented at the conference in a special issue of “Les Annales d’Economie et de Statistiques”, after the usual refereeing process. Submitted articles can be written either in French or English.
More information will progressively be posted on the following website :http://www.unicaen.fr/recherche/mrsh/ADRES2009
