How to Access and Register for iWebfolio (the software that houses your University Writing Portfolio)
**Please note that iWebfolio is not compatible with Internet Explorer; be sure you are using another browser (such as Firefox, Chrome, Safari etc.).
1) ACCESSING iWebfolio through Pirate Port 1) Go to www.ecu.edu and scroll down to the “Quick Links” section which will be
on the right. Click on the link for “Pirate Port”
2) Fill in your Pirate ID and Password and click on the “Log In” button in the
upper right corner.
3) You will then see your Pirate Port main page. Click on the “Tools” button at the top of the screen.
3
4) Click on the “Student Portfolio” link beneath the “Academic Affairs” heading.
Note that your list of tools may look different than this one based on your university status (faculty, undergraduate student, graduate student, etc.). There should, however, be a link like the one below to “student portfolio.”
5) The following page will appear. Click on the “Continue to iWebfolio” button.
4
At this point, you have completed the access process through Pirate Port. In the next section, you will learn how to REGISTER your account.
5
2) REGISTERING for iWebfolio
NOTE: You will only need to register for iWebfolio the first time you use it. After the first time, clicking on the "Continue to iWebfolio" link will take you directly to your iWebfolio home page.
1) After you have clicked "Continue to iWebfolio," a pop-‐up window will appear that asks you to check the box on the left to confirm that you have read the licensing agreement. Read the agreement, then check the box, and click “Accept” to register a new account.
2) Fill out the form with your information using your ECU Student email, Pirate
ID, and password (recommended), and click “next.”
6
3) Click the “finish” button, note that the services for iWebfolio are included in your ECU tuition fees J
4) You will be shown a confirmation number. You may click the “go to iWebfolio” button to continue into iWebfolio.
7
5) Once the registration process is complete, iWebfolio will appear as pictured below the first time you log in.
NEXT STEP: Now that you have registered your iWebfolio account, you are ready to set up your University Writing Portfolio. For detailed instructions, please visit www.ecu.edu/QEP and click on the video or PDF instructions for "Setting Up Your UWPort."
8
Creating Your University Writing Portfolio As always, be sure you are using a browser other than Internet Explorer, which is not compatible with iWebfolio. After logging into your iWebfolio account through Pirate Port, you will need to set up the University Writing Portfolio. To do this you… First, click on the “Portfolios” tab at the top left corner of your screen next to the Home tab.
Then click on “Create New Portfolio” at the top of the list of portfolios.
Click on “English Department” from the list on the left. Find the “University Writing Portfolio” on the list in the middle. Then, click on “Select” to the right of the University Writing Portfolio.
9
The next screen will show the default reviewers* for that portfolio, leave as is, and click “Next.” *Default reviewers, such as “Reviewer1 QEP” in the list below, will help assess the impact of the QEP. If your portfolio is randomly selected for assessment--something that will not happen until after you have completed your degree program--a default reviewer will score it, along with a random sample of several other portfolios from recent graduates, to see if QEP initiatives are helping student writers. Results of the assessment will never be communicated in any way that links scores to individual students/graduates.
On the next screen, it should show your first and last name, along with the “University Writing Portfolio.” Leave the info the same and just click “Save.”
Your portfolio should automatically load and appear similar to the image below.
If the portfolio does not automatically load, you may need to repeat these steps.
10
Uploading Files to Your University Writing Portfolio: ENGL 1100 & 1200/2201 Note: If your file is over 250mb, please see the section in troubleshooting about uploading files through iWebfolio instead of through your portfolio. As always, be sure you are using a browser other than Internet Explorer, which is not compatible with iWebfolio.
1. From the main page, select the “Portfolios” tab.
2. Next, select your University Writing Portfolio.
3. From the page that comes up next, you may select either ENGL 1100 or ENGL 1200/2201. The process for uploading files to either course is the same.
11
4. Next, select the edit mode icon, located in the grey capsule menu at the bottom left of the page.
5. After you select the edit mode icon, another menu will appear on the page’s far right. Select “Files.”

12
7. Next, select “choose file” to import a saved document from your computer into your University Writing Portfolio.
8. Select the document you would like to upload. Click “Choose” (Mac users) or “Ok” (PC users).
9. After selecting the document you wish to upload, you have the option to create a display name for your document. This is helpful if you forgot to save your document with the course prefix and course number. BE SURE to save or change the display name of the document to be uploaded with the course prefix and the course number (such as ENGL 1100), so that your teacher can easily find the documents they are to review for their class. When finished, click “save file(s).” Always SAVE after uploading new content!
*Tip: You may upload and rename two documents at a time. Simply repeat steps 7-9 after selecting the remaining “choose file.”
13
10. Click the “My Files” folder under the Files tab in the column to the right to display the files in that folder.
11. Next, click and hold a specific file you would like to add. Drag the file over to the appropriate section. When you see a green rectangle around the section you wish to add the file to, release the mouse button to drop the file into the section..
Once step 11 is completed, the section should look like the image below, with the file listed just below the section.
12. When you have uploaded the files to the appropriate area of your course, click the save icon located in the grey icon bar. Always SAVE after uploading new content!
Click on the magnifying glass to exit the menu. You can also log out or return to your portfolios list via the menu button at the bottom.

page.
15
5. After you select the edit mode icon, another menu will appear on the page’s far right. Select “Files.”
6. To add a document to your files, select the green plus symbol (+). A drop down list will appear-- select “Add File(s).”
7. Next, select “choose file” to import a saved document from your computer into your
University Writing Portfolio.
16
8. Select the document you would like to upload. Click “Choose” (Mac) or “Ok” (PC).
9. After selecting the document you wish to upload, you have the option to create a display
name for your document. This is helpful if you forgot to save your document with the course prefix and course number. BE SURE to save or change the display name of the document to be uploaded with the course prefix and the course number (such as ENGL 2400), so that your teacher can easily find the documents they are to review for their class. When finished, click “save file(s).” Always SAVE after uploading new content!
*Tip: You may upload and rename two documents at a time. Simply repeat steps 7-9 after selecting the remaining “choose file.”
10. Click the “My Files” folder under the Files tab in the column to the right.
11. Next, click and hold a specific file you would like to add. Drag the file over to the appropriate section. When you see a green rectangle around the section you wish to add the file to, release the mouse button to drop the file into the section.
17
Tip: Some students may take more than one writing intensive course in the same level. For example, a student may take ENGL 2200 and then ENGL 2400 the following semester. When uploading files, add files in successive order (i.e. the major project for ENGL 2200 would go in “Course 1 Major Project”. The major project for ENGL 2400 would go in “Course 2 Major Project”. Also, naming your documents with the course prefix and course number, as pictured below, will help instructors figure out which documents are from their class and are ready to review.
Once step 11 is completed, the section should look like the image below, with the file listed just below the section.
12. When you have uploaded the files to the appropriate area of your course, click the save icon located in the grey icon bar. Always SAVE after uploading new content!
Click on the magnifying glass to exit the menu. You can also log out or return to your portfolios list via the bulleted list menu button.

3. In edit mode hover the mouse over the file you wish to delete until a red “x” appears.
Click the red “X” and select “Yes” when prompted.
This will delete the file from this place in your portfolio, but not from the list of files in iWebfolio.
30
My file is over 250mb. How do I upload it to iWebfolio? As always, be sure you are using a browser other than Internet Explorer, which is not compatible with iWebfolio. Unfortunately the portfolio file uploader cannot handle uploads over 250mb. However, you can still upload the files via the iWebfolio main page and then go back into your portfolio to drag them to your class. To accomplish this, exit your portfolio and go back to the main iWebfolio page. From here, click on the “Files” tab.
From this page, click on the “Add New File” button.
31
This brings you to the Basic File Uploader. As you can see by the “NOTE,” it prompts you to use the Advanced File Uploader, accessible by clicking on the “Advanced File Upload” button.
Also note: You may need to activate or install Java to use the Advanced File Uploader. If you do, you may receive a notice prompting you to do so, such as the one below.
If you have Java installed or activated, Java will load and the black part in the picture above will turn white. NOTE: If Java does not load and you receive an error message, try the quick fix found here: https://www.java.com/en/download/help/java_blocked.xml 1. Go to Start Menu. 2. Locate the Java folder and choose “Configure Java.” 4. Choose the “Security Tab” a. Choose “Edit Site List” and enter https://www.iwebfolio.com (then ADD) 5. Choose “Apply” For now, this should fix the issue for those users wishing to use the applet.
32
From there, figure out which folder you want the document to go into by using the dropdown menu at the top left corner, then click anywhere inside the white box.
An upload box will appear. Find the document on your computer you want to upload to iWebfolio and click “Upload.”
33
As your file uploads, a box will appear giving you a progress report on your upload. When your file upload is complete, click “Exit” to return to the Advanced File Upload page.
Clicking on the “Files” tab will bring you back to the main list of files. Your newly uploaded file should show up in the folder you uploaded it to. If not, try clicking the “Show All Files” button and/or try clicking the “Refresh Files” button to locate the file.
