Faith MorrisMission Viejo Chapter Member

Where are you from originally, when did you move to So Cal and how long have you been a member?New York City. I moved to Pasadena in 1978, fresh out of college. Can't remember exactly when I joined the club, but it was at least 17 years ago.

What got you started on running, when, where, etc.?Following back surgery, around 1989-90 I didn't want to take the ability to move for granted any longer so I took up running. I admired my friend, Aileen, who was a marathon runner, and she gave me my first runner's log to get me started.

What has been your favorite race and why?That's a tough one. I have many favorites for many different reasons, but I've done the Catalina Marathon ten times so I guessthat would be it. In addition to the breathtaking views, the unique nature of this race fosters a comraderie amongst strangers who share the experience.

What is the coolest place you have gone for a run?I have been fortunate to run in some incredibly places including Japan, Brazil and Alaska, but my most recent favorite run was the 8.2 mile perimeter of Macinac Island, Michigan.

What are you training for now and how is it going?I am currently training for the Revel Marathon in Azusa with my friend and fellow Snail Ashley Macy. This race will be my return to the marathon distance after a five year hiatus and her first.

Do you have any races that interest you?I would love to do the New Orleans Half Marathon and the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati.

What are your current running goals?Finish the race and don't throw up.

What is your best running tip?Set a goal for yourself, but don't forget to enjoy the journey.

Why do you run?Because I can.

Any other hobbies or interests?Movies, books, gardening, travel, card making,...

What do you like most about A Snail’s Pace Running Club?I like being in the same club with elite runners and still feel that I belong at my true Snail's Pace.

Fountain Valley

Thirty days of no running. Now I lazily sleep in on the

weekend, getting up I wander out to the patio with a

cup of coffee while you all are out running. I tell myselfthat it's nice; it was for the first few weeks. Now I sip

coffee dreaming of being up early and logging double

digits miles. The frustrating part is I don’t know howlong I’ll be sidelined.

We all have our own reasons for running. Mine ishealth and it still is... but it’s different than before. I

was driving to run for physical health reasons, I used to

be more overweight (albeit slightly younger) andgenerally less healthy plus I ate worse. Now I run to

escape, everything. The woes of my life, stress from

work and home and the problems that feeloverwhelming and solution-less. Running was the

break in my day, where I could process these woes and

then after an hour think about nothing or beingemptiness. Not a nihilistic empty but a zen just being

in the moment.

My leg is on the mend, it's getting better, so I’ll be out

there soon. I’ll get to process the solution-less

problems while running away my worries. I’ll get tojust run in the moment and not worry about a thing.

Soon I’ll be out there with you all at the back bay, thebeach trail or the trailhead for our early morning runs.
