• Every year 35,000 children in India are born with facial clefts.
• There are over 10 lakh cases of untreated clefts in India.

• With no access to medical care, thesechildren are doomed to a life of suffering& torment, imprisoned by stigma ofdeformity.

problem.

They cannot attend schools or hold a regular job or get married.
Many specially girls are even abandoned or killed at birth.

Poverty, Illiteracy, Misinformation are rampant.

• 35 districts of Maharashtra has totalpopulation of 1,12,372,972 - 2011 census.
• Incidence, 1:700 live birth of cleft lip and palatein Maharashtra is in accordance with 1:600 livebirths in India.

Project Details• Project launched – March 2012
• Aim - Treating the less fortunate children
born with facial deformities like cleft lip and
palate and to reintegrate these children into
mainstream society.
Mission - To establish state-of-the-art
cleft centre to treat children born with
cleft lip/ palate and other facial
deformities.
• Team work by Oral and maxillofacial surgeons, Orthodontists and Speech therapist to give best results in all the functions.
• Cleft camps conducted till date – 04
• Total patients operated under the project till date - 13

Funding Required for:
• Surgery
• Conducting screening camps
• Upgradation of instruments and equipment
• Establish state-of-the-art cleft centre
• Cleft lip & palate can be very well
corrected by a small surgical procedure
of 1-2 hours with a hospital stay of 3-5
days & costing as little as Rs.12,000 –
15,000 per surgery.
